As per the official statement, the global debut of the OnePlus 12R will coincide with the OnePlus 12 on January 23rd. Interestingly, the OnePlus 12R is essentially a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 3, which is scheduled for release in China on January 4th.

    Design and Construction

Offered in two color variations, Iron Gray and Cool Blue, the OnePlus 12R is designed to host an alert slider positioned on the device’s left edge. This slider enables users to seamlessly switch between different notification modes. Additionally, the relocated alert slider supports the integration of a novel antenna system, enhancing the device’s performance, particularly during online gaming activities.

    Global Availability

The OnePlus 12R will be accessible in multiple markets worldwide, including India, North America, and Europe. Historically, phones under OnePlus’s "R" branding have been exclusive to India. However, in the case of the Ace 3 destined for China, a Sand Gold variant will be available. Regrettably, this specific color choice will not be offered in international markets.

    Projected Specifications

While OnePlus has refrained from officially disclosing the detailed specifications of the OnePlus 12R, leaked information and rumors have shed light on the device’s capabilities.

    • Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset

In terms of photography capabilities, rumors suggest that the device will feature a rear triple-camera system comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS (Sony IMX890), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front, a 16-megapixel selfie camera is expected.

    Summary

OnePlus 12 & 12R Global Launch Set for January 23, 2024, Featuring Slight Regional Variances

Chinese tech giant and BBK subsidiary OnePlus has officially announced the global launch date for the much anticipated OnePlus flagship. The company via a post on the OnePlus community revealed that the OnePlus 12 series comprising the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R will meet with the global audience on January 23, 2024. The announcement comes after a series of leaks and rumors that had kept tech enthusiasts on the edge of their seats, speculating about the features and specifications of these upcoming smartphones.

    Global Launch Event

The launch event, scheduled for 9 a.m. EST, is expected to unveil the devices to a global audience. While the exact location of the event remains undisclosed, the launch poster shared by the company shows that the launch which may likely be virtual will take place simultaneously across different regions – North America, Europe, and India, given the three time zones indicated. For the North American region, the launch will happen at 9:00 AM EST while for Europe, it will take place at 3:00 PM CET. The launch will also happen in India at 7:30 PM IST.

OnePlus 12: A Potential Turning Point

The OnePlus 12 is generating significant interest as it marks a potential turning point for the company. Observers note a sense of momentum and promise, signaling a departure from previous models. Although specific details about the devices are yet to be officially confirmed, the company indicated on the teaser poster that the models may have minor changes that include the thickness and network configurations. There may also be other minor changes that are not known at the moment.

    Specifications and Features

The OnePlus 12 series has been launched and is already on sale in China where it has been plagued with some controversies that have been addressed by the company’s CEO Li Jie. To give you a hint of the configuration, the OnePlus 12 packs a 6.82-inch curved OLED display with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The model is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor backed by LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The device also comes with a large VC cooling system which should do a great job of keeping the device cool while running heavy apps like extreme games. The device utilizes a glass and metal frame and has an IP65 waterproof rating.

For optics, the OP12 packs a triple rear camera setup similar to the OnePlus Open comprising a 50MP main sensor and Hasselblad image processing. On the software side, the device runs on the Android 14-based ColorOS 14. It equally crams a 5,400 mAh battery under the hood with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

    OnePlus 12R: A Cheaper Model

Perhaps, the most exciting bit of the announcement for many is that the OnePlus 12R will be launched for the global market. Last year, OnePlus omitted the 11R from the global launch, only making the model available in India with the previous-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. In the same vein, we expect the OnePlus 12R to be a cheaper model with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset but the same design.

For now, nothing is known about the global pricing, but we’ll keep you updated here on Gizmochina as more details emerge.

  • OnePlus 12 Reviewed: The OnePlus Phone with the Least Drawbacks

OnePlus 12 Reviewed: The OnePlus Phone with the Least Drawbacks

This year marks the 10th anniversary of OnePlus, and they have put all their efforts into creating their latest phone, the OnePlus 12. As someone who has reviewed many OnePlus phones, I can confidently say that the OnePlus 12 is the best OnePlus phone to buy in the past two years. I’m glad to see OnePlus back in action.

    Design

The camera module design on the OnePlus 12 may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but personally, I find it unremarkable. When I first laid eyes on the phone, I immediately recognized it as a new OnePlus release.

Some early adopters have reported a gap between the camera module and the back cover on their OnePlus 12. However, we did not encounter this issue with our unit. OnePlus CEO has addressed this concern, stating that it does not affect the phone’s waterproofing. Future phones will have this area filled with glue, so it should not be a significant problem.

Speaking of waterproofing, it is disappointing that the OnePlus 12 only supports IP65. As a flagship phone, it would have been preferable for it to have an IP68 rating. This decision is quite perplexing.

Fortunately, IP65 seems to be the only weakness of the OnePlus 12. The fingerprint area is conveniently placed, USB 3.0 makes a comeback, and the alert slider is still present. Additionally, the vibration motor is one of the best among Android phones. Overall, unless you are someone who frequently exposes their phone to water, the OnePlus 12 is an excellent choice.

    Display

While the screen on the OnePlus 11 was decent, it was not particularly eye-friendly. The OnePlus 12 addresses this issue and does an excellent job of displaying and protecting your eyes simultaneously. Furthermore, the 4500nit peak brightness is impressive, and the full-screen brightness surpasses that of other phones.

The ability to adjust the color temperature in the Display Setting provides more freedom, and a feature similar to True Tone is also available. The viewing angle of the panel is slightly inferior to TCL’s C8 but far superior to the Samsung E6.

As an LTPO screen, the OnePlus 12 offers 2160Hz PWM dimming at low brightness and 360Hz DC-like dimming at high brightness. The black stripes on the OnePlus 12 are noticeably thinner, indicating better flicker control. If you value both display quality and eye protection, the OnePlus 12 is the ideal choice.

    Benchmark & Gaming

The OnePlus 12 is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which is familiar to many of us. It is unnecessary to delve into the details as the scores speak for themselves. It is worth noting that the OnePlus 12 does not seem to prioritize aggressive performance, as it starts downclocking in the fourth minute of the CPU Throttling Test and downclocks twice.

However, in gaming scenarios, the OnePlus 12 will allow you to play continuously for 20 minutes before downclocking, which is normal for non-gaming phones. The frame rate is locked at 50fps, so if you are a dedicated gamer, you may want to consider a dedicated gaming phone for extended gaming sessions.

    Camera

All three cameras on the OnePlus 12 are impressive, with none of the sensors being small in size. While they may not have the massive 1-inch sensors found in phones like the X100 Pro, they still capture decent photos.

It is difficult to provide a detailed breakdown of the pros and cons of the OnePlus 12 cameras without a proper comparison. Therefore, we will be creating a video comparing the OnePlus 12 to the realme GT5 Pro. In that video, you will find all the information you need to know about the OnePlus 12 cameras. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

    Battery & Charging

The wired charging power of the OnePlus 12 remains unchanged at 100W, allowing for a full charge in just 23 minutes. However, the biggest surprise is the addition of wireless charging, which operates at 50W. Furthermore, the OnePlus 12 boasts impressive battery life. Compared to the K70 Pro, which also has a 2K screen, the OnePlus 12’s 400mAh larger capacity gives it a significant advantage. Well done, OnePlus.

    Conclusion

Upon reflection, the OnePlus 12 stands out as a OnePlus phone with minimal flaws. Apart from the camera design and the IP65 rating, which may not concern many users, it is challenging to find any other faults. Furthermore, its price is relatively affordable compared to other flagship phones.

While I hesitate to dub the OnePlus 12 as the new flagship killer of the year due to the realme GT5 Pro, it remains an incredibly worthwhile phone that is almost perfect. I hope you enjoy OnePlus’ 10th-anniversary gift to its fans.

  • Brand new OnePlus 12 phone chassis discovered with dead bug by Weibo user

Brand new OnePlus 12 phone chassis discovered with dead bug by Weibo user

A Weibo user recently made a disturbing discovery when they found a dead bug under the chassis of their new OnePlus 12 smartphone. OnePlus has acknowledged the issue and is working with the individual to resolve it. This incident raises concerns about the quality of the much-hyped OnePlus 12.

Questioning the Quality of OnePlus 12

The OnePlus 12 was marketed as a premium device with powerful hardware and offered at an affordable price. It boasted several innovations from its predecessors. However, the discovery of a foreign element inside the smartphone and the presence of panel gaps suggest subpar construction.

Possible Impact of OnePlus and OPPO Merger

One might wonder if the merger of OnePlus’ and OPPO’s research and development teams is responsible for the decline in quality seen in the flagship OnePlus 12. The Weibo post that exposed the dead bug included a photo of the device, highlighting the insect trapped within the chassis. The photo also revealed visible panel gaps and even hair particles. Additionally, the glue holding the glass to the frame appeared to be in poor condition. It remains uncertain whether these issues are isolated incidents or indicative of a larger problem. Nevertheless, they cast doubt on the flagship status of the OnePlus 12.

    User Reactions and Potential Impact

The Weibo incident has prompted other OnePlus 12 users to voice their concerns about the smartphone. One notable issue raised by users is the presence of a green line on the device. How OnePlus manages this incident has the potential to influence the positive reception expected for the smartphone’s launch in China. The global launch of the OnePlus 12 is scheduled for January 23, 2024.

    OnePlus 12 Specifications

To provide a brief overview, the OnePlus 12 smartphone was announced in China a week ago. It boasts a 6.8-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED panel and offers up to 24GB of RAM. The device features three rear cameras, including a 64MP module. After weeks of speculation, the OnePlus 12 was unveiled as a strong competitor to flagship offerings such as the Xiaomi 14 and the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

  • Li Jie addresses concerns over OnePlus 12 manufacturing: focusing on camera housing and back panel gap

Li Jie addresses concerns over OnePlus 12 manufacturing: focusing on camera housing and back panel gap

The launch of the OnePlus 12 in China has been marred by reports of manufacturing issues, with netizens on Weibo sharing images highlighting a visible gap between the camera module and the back panel. Additionally, some images showed an excess of glue in the same area. Notably, not all units have this issue.

    Manufacturing Issues Surface

The OnePlus 12, the latest flagship smartphone from OnePlus, has faced criticism due to manufacturing issues. Users on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform, have shared images that showcase a noticeable gap between the camera module and the back panel of the device. Some images also reveal an excess of glue in the same area. It is important to note, however, that not all OnePlus 12 units are affected by these issues.

    Differences in Quality Control Standards

Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, as well as president of the international department and general manager of the Redmi brand, has suggested that the wider gap observed in the OnePlus 12 aligns with OnePlus’ internal quality control standards. This implies that Xiaomi’s standards are more stringent when it comes to manufacturing smartphones.

    OnePlus Responds to Concerns

In response to the reports and comments from competitors, Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, issued an official statement to address the concerns of consumers. Li Jie reassured users that the reported issues are not indicative of a quality or design problem with the OnePlus 12. He explained that the design of the device involves the use of three different materials for the battery cover, lens module, and middle frame, which results in a curved surface design in certain areas. The camera decoration not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also enhances mobile signal reception.

    Waterproofing and Dustproof Features Intact

Li Jie clarified that the design choices made for the OnePlus 12 do not compromise the phone’s waterproofing and dustproof features. He explained that these features are addressed through sealing processes and coatings below the camera module. The variations in the thermal expansion and contraction coefficients of the different materials used in the device necessitate a certain tolerance in manufacturing to prevent breakage.

    Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed

To address user concerns and ensure customer satisfaction, Li Jie announced a 7-day return policy for potential buyers of the OnePlus 12. If customers are dissatisfied with the product upon receipt, the customer service team has been directed to provide swift exchanges or returns. Li Jie emphasized that OnePlus is committed to addressing customer concerns and providing a seamless experience for users.

    Calling Out “Malicious Competition”

Li Jie expressed his disapproval of what he referred to as “malicious competition” from certain brand executives who, in his view, were attempting to mislead the public. He described such behavior as rare and detrimental to the industry. By addressing these concerns and highlighting the company’s commitment to quality, Li Jie aims to reassure consumers about the build quality of the OnePlus 12 while challenging competitors to let the product speak for itself.

In conclusion, despite the manufacturing issues reported for some OnePlus 12 units, the company’s president, Li Jie, has provided a detailed response to address these concerns. He assures potential buyers that the reported issues do not compromise the device’s quality or design. With a 7-day return policy in place, OnePlus aims to prioritize customer satisfaction and ensure a positive user experience.
