– Smartphone screens have significantly increased in size over the years, making 6.3-inch models like the iPhone 17 now considered compact.
– Startup Enough Phone is developing a 5.2-inch screen smartphone to challenge the trend of larger devices, prioritizing one-handed use.
– The phone is described as a “premium” but affordable mid-range device, focusing on long battery life and a high-quality camera.
– It will offer a choice between standard Android and a minimalist UI designed to reduce distractions.
– The project plans to launch on Kickstarter soon, but most design and feature details remain unconfirmed.
Phone Sizes Have Gotten Huge
Smartphones have gotten so big that the Apple iPhone 17, with a screen diagonal of 6.3 inches, is already one of the most compact smartphones on the market. Things were quite different just a few years ago – from the iPhone 4’s 3.5-inch display to the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display, the iPhone 6’s 4.7-inch screen, and the iPhone 13 mini’s 5.4-inch touchscreen, smartphones have continued to grow in size over the years.
A Startup Aims for Smaller
A startup called Enough Phone aims to buck this trend. The Enough Phone is designed to have a screen size of just 5.2 inches, making it easy to operate with one hand. The Enough Phone is set to be funded “soon” via Kickstarter. Aside from a schematic illustration showing a smartphone with just one rear camera, a screw-on back cover, and a flat metal frame, the company has so far confirmed very few details about the Enough Phone’s features or design.
Mid-Range Compromises and Priorities
However, it is said to be a small “premium smartphone” that is still affordable – a somewhat roundabout way of describing a mid-range smartphone. Given the compromises that buyers of the Apple iPhone 13 mini had to accept, the Enough Phone is said to prioritize long battery life and a high-quality camera. The smartphone is said to utilize “premium components” and give users the choice between a standard Android version and a minimalist user interface with fewer distractions.
No Launch Date Yet
Enough Phone has not yet confirmed when the Kickstarter campaign for the smartphone will launch.
