Seiko Watch Corporation has unveiled two new limited-edition timepieces within its Prospex series to honor Shohei Ohtani’s remarkable achievements. These watches are inspired by the Diver’s 1965 Heritage model, and they are set to launch in Japan on April 24, 2026.
Limited Availability and Pricing
The two models, SBDC222 and SBDC224, are each restricted to a production run of 1,700 units. Both watches are priced at ¥286,000 (including tax), which is approximately $1,836. They share many of the same specifications, with the main distinction being the color of the dial.
Design Inspirations
The design reflects the colors of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ away uniforms, featuring grey and blue with gold highlights. Gold accents can be found on the bezel edge, crown, hands, and indexes, paying tribute to the special gold MLB logo patch worn by select award-winning athletes, including MVPs. One model boasts a silver-toned dial while the other showcases a rich blue dial, complemented by a blue bezel insert.
Technical Specifications
Both timepieces come with a stainless-steel case and bracelet that have been treated with Seiko’s DiaShield coating for enhanced scratch resistance. The case measures 40 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 13 mm. A curved sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating safeguards the dial, while the water resistance is rated at 300 meters, making it suitable for diving.
The heart of these watches is Seiko’s proprietary automatic Caliber 6R55 movement. This caliber provides an impressive power reserve of about 72 hours, operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (equivalent to 6 beats per second), and features 24 jewels. The stated accuracy is within +25 to -15 seconds per day under standard temperature conditions while being worn.
Unique Features and Packaging
In addition to the distinct dial features, Ohtani’s jersey number “17” is engraved on the crown, and his signature is found on the bracelet clasp. The caseback is adorned with the engraving “Shohei Ohtani Limited Edition” along with an individual serial number. Customers will also receive a special presentation box that features Ohtani’s signature.
