Samsung is currently facing a notable disadvantage when it comes to battery capacity in its smartphones. The upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to come with a 5000 mAh battery, which pales in comparison to many flagship models that boast batteries exceeding 6000 mAh. However, recent leaks suggest that this situation may soon improve.
Exciting Changes Ahead
According to a leak from Jukanlosreve, which references Ice Universe, Samsung is likely to introduce larger batteries in its 2026 flagship series, the Galaxy S26. Specifically, the leaker indicates that the Galaxy S26 lineup will implement silicon-carbon batteries when they launch next year.
Advances in Battery Technology
In the past six months, manufacturers have gradually begun to use silicon-carbon batteries, with notable examples being the Xiaomi 15 Pro and the OnePlus 13, both of which feature batteries around 6000 mAh. This shift to a new battery chemistry has allowed for larger battery sizes due to the increased energy density. For context, the older models, Xiaomi 14 Pro and OnePlus 12, had battery capacities of 4880 mAh and 5400 mAh, respectively.
The adoption of silicon-carbon technology would enable Samsung to enhance the battery sizes of the Galaxy S26 series without needing additional physical space. Silicon-carbon batteries typically provide about 10-15% more energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, suggesting that a device like the Galaxy S26 Ultra could potentially sport a battery close to 5500 mAh. This is, of course, purely hypothetical.
