On June 27, OnePlus will be hosting a launch event in China to unveil a range of new devices. Among these are the performance-centric OnePlus Ace 3 Pro phone and the OnePlus Pad Pro tablet, both anticipated to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Additionally, the event will feature the announcement of the OnePlus Buds 3 TWS earbuds and a new smartwatch. In China, this smartwatch will be branded as the OnePlus Watch 2, but rumors indicate that its international version might be named the OnePlus Watch 3. A recent leak suggests that this device will be a continuation of the existing OnePlus Watch 2 series for the global market.
OnePlus Watch 2R Branding for Global Market
In a recent tweet, reputable leaker Max Jambor referred to the device as the “OnePlus Watch 2R.” However, he did not disclose any further details about it. This name is likely to be the final designation for the upcoming global edition of the OnePlus smartwatch.
Earlier this year, OnePlus introduced the OnePlus Watch 2 globally, but it was not released in China. Given that it has been less than six months since the Watch 2 was launched, it's improbable that the next smartwatch will carry the OnePlus Watch 3 branding. Instead, it may be marketed globally as the OnePlus Watch 2R, while retaining the OnePlus Watch 2 name in China.
Specifications and Model Number
The TENAA certification from China revealed that this new device will feature a 500mAh battery and LTE connectivity. Unfortunately, no other specifications are currently known.
The existing Watch 2 carries the model number OPWWE231, whereas the forthcoming smartwatch has a model number of OPWWE234. This suggests that the new OPWWE234 could be a variant of the OnePlus Watch 2.
Typically, OnePlus uses the letter “R” to denote more affordable versions of their flagship products. For example, the OnePlus 12 has a budget-friendly counterpart called the OnePlus 12R. Similarly, the upcoming OnePlus Watch 2R is expected to be a more economical version of the Watch 2.
