ZTE is said to be developing a new version of its first foldable smartphone, the Nubia Flip 5G, which was released earlier this year. This upcoming device, likely named the Nubia Flip II, was listed in the IMEI database in August and has more recently been certified by the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
New Specs and Design Revealed
The MIIT certification sheds light on the specifications and design of the Nubia Flip II, helping us understand what features we can look forward to in this new foldable phone. According to the certification, the Nubia Flip II will include a 4,225 mAh battery, which is a small drop from the 4,310 mAh battery found in its predecessor. It will operate on Android 14 and support multiple connectivity options like 5G NR NSA/NR, TD-LTE, LTE FDD, and have dual-SIM dual-standby mode along with Bluetooth, GPS, AGPS, and GLONASS navigation.
Enhanced Outer Display
One of the key improvements in the Nubia Flip II is its larger outer display. This new screen has changed from a circular format in the original model to a more rectangular shape that expands vertically. This redesign is likely to enhance usability for quick notifications and interactions, which is a much-appreciated update. The secondary display will be 3 inches and will feature an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 422 x 682 pixels.
Internal Features and Camera Layout
Inside, the Nubia Flip II will boast a 6.85-inch AMOLED main display, offering a high resolution of 1,188 x 2,970 pixels. The camera layout has also been revamped; rather than the circular arrangement around the secondary screen seen in the first generation, the Nubia Flip II will have two cameras and an LED flash positioned vertically next to the cover screen. Additionally, the phone's frame now has a more rounded design, with the volume buttons situated on the right side. The power button will also function as a fingerprint scanner for enhanced security.
Looking Back at the Original Model
The Nubia Flip 5G, which launched earlier in 2024, featured a 6.9-inch main display with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 1.43-inch circular OLED secondary display. It was powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, could have up to 12 GB of RAM, and offered 512 GB of internal storage. The device also included a dual-camera system with a 50 MP main sensor, stereo speakers, and supported 33W fast charging.
While the official launch date for the Nubia Flip II hasn't been announced yet, it's anticipated to be released in the first quarter of 2025, following the February launch of the original Nubia Flip.
