Following the release of the Phone 2a in March, Nothing has unveiled a new smartphone under its sub-brand CMF, featuring a distinctive modular back design. While it seemed like the company had concluded its phone releases for the year, with the Phone 3 slated for a 2025 launch, rumors about another device, the Phone 2a Plus, have now emerged.
Teasing the New Device
The speculation began when Nothing shared an image of the Pokemon Mega Aerodactyl on social media, accompanied by a standalone “+” sign.
For those who might not know, Nothing uses Pokemon names as codenames for its devices, with the Phone 2a being internally referred to as Aerodactyl. Thus, the mention of Mega Aerodactyl followed by a plus sign hints at an upcoming “Plus” model in the A-series lineup, potentially the Phone 2a Plus.
Evidence from Telecom Listings
Adding credibility to the rumors, Indian telecom operator Jio has listed a device named Nothing Phone 2a Plus in its database. Although this doesn’t confirm the device’s existence, it strongly suggests that something is in development.
Details regarding the Nothing Phone 2a Plus are currently limited. It’s unclear how the Plus model will differ from the standard Phone 2a.
Speculative Features
The Phone 2a already offers a robust mid-range package, including a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, and a competent dual-camera system.
If the Plus variant does come to fruition, it may feature upgrades in the camera system, processor, or battery life. However, until Nothing provides official confirmation or more reliable leaks surface, these details are purely speculative.
