The new six-seat Tesla Model Y L trim is set to exceed the range of the standard AWD version, even with its larger and heavier design.

Per its listing in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China, which is responsible for vehicle certifications, the Tesla Model Y L will be equipped with an 82 kWh battery. Although the anticipated 90 kWh battery specs didn’t appear, the 3-row Model Y maintains a strong performance regarding the distance it can travel on a single charge.

Battery and Range Details

This 82 kWh battery might be the same one from LG Energy that is also used in the AWD version. Nevertheless, the Model Y L boasts a slightly increased range of 751 km (467 miles) on a single charge, despite having a curb weight that’s 189 lbs heavier, being seven inches longer, and around two inches taller.

This range is determined using the CLTC testing method, which tends to be about a third more lenient than the EPA estimates in the United States. When adjusting for this difference, the Model Y L could offer a range similar to the current EPA estimate of 327 miles for the AWD model in the US.

Interior Configuration

The first-ever six-seat Model Y trim will showcase a clever 3-row setup, featuring four captain’s chairs in the front two rows and two full-size seats in the back that are positioned slightly lower to provide additional headroom for taller riders.

Sources indicate that the second row will include motorized seats, which are capable of moving back and forth to create more legroom for the foldable third row, as well as folding flat, transforming the Model Y L into a genuine cargo carrier.

The rear seats of the new 2026 Model Y can be folded down at the press of a button, and Tesla might bring similar functionality to the four rear seats in the L trim, which will introduce a longer wheelbase for the Model Y for the first time.
