In 2021, Xiaomi introduced the Mi 11 Ultra, a top-tier Android smartphone featuring a unique secondary display located beside its rear cameras. This year, the Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has revived this design, first with the Agni 3 in October and now with the new Blaze Duo.
Specifications and Features
The Lava Blaze Duo is a mid-range 5G device, sporting a 6.67'' curved AMOLED display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. The smartphone is driven by the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 processor, and it comes in two RAM options: 6GB and 8GB of LPDDR5, along with 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A downside is the absence of a microSD card slot for extra storage.
Camera and Display
For photography, the Lava Blaze Duo features a 16MP front camera, while the rear includes a 64MP Sony sensor alongside a 2MP secondary camera. Adjacent to the rear cameras is a compact 1.58'' display that has a resolution of 228 × 460. This secondary display is smaller than the 1.74-inch version found on the Agni 3. It serves as a viewfinder for selfies captured with the rear cameras and also shows call and app notifications, audio playback controls, number of steps taken, and battery status.
Battery and Connectivity
Inside, the device houses a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging via USB-C. The Blaze Duo also includes Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi connectivity, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and Face Unlock capabilities. According to Lava, the phone runs on a version of Android 14 that's free of ads and bloatware, with a promise of an upgrade to Android 15 in the future.
The Lava Blaze Duo comes in two colors: Arctic White and Celestial Blue, both featuring a matte finish. It will be available for purchase starting December 20, with a recommended retail price of ₹18,999 (~$224/€213) for the 6GB RAM model and ₹20,499 (~$241/€230) for the 8GB RAM model.
Pricing and Discounts
However, the phone will be available on Amazon India for a lower price of ₹16,999 (~$200/€191) and ₹17,999 (~$212/€202) for the respective RAM variants. Buyers can also benefit from an additional bank discount of ₹2,000 (~$24/€22), making the price even more appealing.
Lava's new smartphone brings back a familiar design while promising modern features and competitive pricing.
