Huawei's forthcoming flagship smartphone line, the Mate 70 series, has been the subject of numerous leaks and rumors, despite the absence of official details.
In the most recent leak, Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu disclosed that the Huawei Mate 70 series will continue with the circular camera design seen in the Mate 60 series. This design choice has been consistent in the Mate line since the Mate 30 series, with the exception of the Mate 50 series, which featured a plate-style module. It seems that the Mate 70 series will adhere to this established design.
Competing with the iPhone 16 Series
The tipster also revealed that the Huawei Mate 70 series aims to compete directly with Apple's iPhone 16 series, not only in hardware specifications but also in software features. According to Smart Pikachu, the Mate 70 series will come with advanced AI capabilities, emphasizing AI imaging and "AI Life." Similarly, Apple is expected to incorporate AI features in iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 series.
It will be intriguing to compare these new phones on their AI functionalities and to see if these features help them capture market share.
Minimal Details Known
Beyond this, little is known about the Huawei Mate 70 series. Current rumors suggest that the series will utilize a new OmniVision CMOS sensor and a new Super Core Kirin chip, which reportedly scores over 1 million points in benchmarking applications.
Additionally, the phones are anticipated to run on Huawei’s new operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT, which will not support Android apps. The Mate 70 is expected to be the first smartphone to come with HarmonyOS NEXT pre-installed out of the box.
