Users Need Magnetic Cases for Better Alignment
The Qi2 standard, which the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has confirmed, helps devices align better and charge more efficiently without wires. However, it appears that Samsung's approach depends on an external accessory instead of integrating this technology directly into the phones. This could be a strategy to keep the phone’s price lower in light of rising costs for components like the chipset. Therefore, users wanting improved alignment of the charging coils will have to make an additional purchase.
Accessory Leaks Indicate Hardware Limitations
Leaked information about accessories for the Galaxy S25 series includes a “Magnet Case,” hinting that the phone may not have the built-in hardware to support Qi2’s magnetic features on its own. This case is likely to carry the Qi2 logo and enable full compatibility with other Qi2 chargers and accessories.
Criticism Over Battery Specs
In addition to wireless charging issues, the Galaxy S25 series has also received criticism regarding its battery specifications. A listing from China's Compulsory Certification (CCC) database indicates that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will sport a 4,885mAh battery—most probably marketed as 5,000mAh—matching the capacity of its predecessor, the S24 Ultra. The charging speeds are also anticipated to be the same, showing no progress in this aspect.
This cautious strategy stands in contrast to Samsung's competitors in China, like OnePlus, OPPO, and Xiaomi, which are outfitting their flagship phones with larger 6,000mAh batteries and utilizing advanced Silicon Carbide battery technology. This new material can provide either higher energy density or create slimmer devices, giving these brands an advantage in battery performance.
Design and Performance Updates
Regarding the design, there are rumors of a revamped body with rounded corners, alongside a camera setup that features a 200MP primary sensor. The entire series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
