The OnePlus Open 2 is generating a lot of excitement as one of the most awaited foldable smartphones for 2025. This comes after the success of the company's first foldable model, which received positive feedback. New leaks have surfaced, providing what seems to be an initial glimpse of the upcoming device.
Initial Look at the Device
According to Smartprix, the initial images reveal the rear and unfolded view of the OnePlus Open 2. These renders are said to be based on a prototype that is close to the final design, suggesting that the actual production version may differ slightly from what is shown.
Design and Features
In terms of design, the OnePlus Open 2 appears quite similar to the original OnePlus Open. The images depict the main folding display with a punch-hole for the front camera at the top right. On the rear, there’s a circular camera module that holds three cameras. Notably, the arrangement of these sensors has been altered, now located at the 3, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. In contrast, the original model had its cameras at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock marks. The LED flash remains outside the camera area, and the Hasselblad branding is still present.
Significant Changes
One of the main differences lies in the dimensions. The OnePlus Open 2 is said to be thinner than its predecessor, measuring under 10mm when folded, compared to the 11.7mm thickness of the original model. It’s also expected to come with an IPX8 water resistance rating, improving upon the IPX4 rating seen in the previous version.
In terms of specifications, the OnePlus Open 2 is rumored to feature a larger cover display and main display, with sizes of 6.4 inches and 8.0 inches, respectively. It is anticipated to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, offering up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Battery and Charging Improvements
Reports also suggest the device will boast an IPX8 water resistance rating, which is a step up from the IPX4 rating of the previous model. Furthermore, it’s expected to include triple 50MP cameras and a significantly larger 5,900mAh battery, surpassing not only the 4,805mAh in the original OnePlus Open but also the 4,650mAh battery of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, currently priced at $1,499 on Amazon. Additionally, leaks indicate that the OnePlus Open 2 will support wireless charging, a feature missing from the previous version.
There are unverified claims that OnePlus will debut the Open 2 in China in early Q1 2025, with a global rollout expected later in the same quarter. Like its predecessor, which was a modified version of the Oppo Find N3, the OnePlus Open 2 might also be released under the Oppo brand as the Find N5.
