  • Ayaneo Unveils Gaming Tablet Prototype and First Game Controller

Ayaneo Unveils Gaming Tablet Prototype and First Game Controller

    Key Takeaways

    1. Ayaneo plans to launch its first Android gaming tablet, the Ayaneo Gaming Pad, which has been delayed from its initial May release.
    2. The tablet features a transparent design and will be available in black and white, but its bulkier size is due to a cooling fan and unspecified battery capacity.
    3. The prototype shown has a different rear camera setup compared to earlier designs, indicating potential changes before the final product is released.
    4. Functional elements include a curved metal frame with controls, a headphone jack, USB-C port, and an indicator LED for charging status, along with a separate telescopic game controller.
    5. The confirmed specifications include an 8.3-inch IPS display with 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 processor, but a new launch date has yet to be announced.

After establishing a reputation in the Android gaming handheld market, Ayaneo revealed in March its plan to launch its first Android gaming tablet in May. The device, named the Ayaneo Gaming Pad, has delayed its release by a few months but was highlighted again in a livestream during the 2025-2026 strategy session where key accessories were also presented.

    Prototype Reveal

During the livestream, a functional prototype of the Ayaneo Gaming Pad was displayed. As previously noted, this tablet features a transparent design and will come in both black and white color choices.

    Design Features

This device seems bulkier compared to other compact gaming tablets like the RedMagic Astra. However, its thickness is likely due to the cooling fan, the large cooling vent located on one side, and a battery with a capacity that has not yet been specified.

A noteworthy detail is that the prototype shown in the livestream features a different rear camera setup. Instead of the dual rear cameras and LED flash shown in earlier renders from March, this prototype has a single rear camera that sticks out a bit and lacks the LED flash. It’s unclear whether this prototype represents the final design or if the Ayaneo Gaming Pad will keep the originally revealed look.

    Functional Elements

The Ayaneo Gaming Pad boasts a curved metal frame that contains the power button, volume control, air vent, and an unidentified button on the right side; a headphone jack is positioned on the left. A USB-C port is located at the bottom, accompanied by two slits likely intended for speakers. Additionally, Ayaneo has included an indicator LED on the back lower part of the tablet that lights up while the device is charging.

Alongside the tablet, Ayaneo presented a telescopic game controller designed for it. This controller, which will come in yellow and black, connects to the tablet through USB-C, similar to the Razer Kishi V3 Pro Gaming Controller (priced at $148.49 on Amazon). It features asymmetric joysticks with ring lights, ABXY action buttons arranged in an Xbox layout, two extra shoulder buttons, two back buttons, and switches to modify the triggers. Ayaneo mentioned that the controller will be sold separately.

    Uncertain Release Date

Although the tablet is now two months past its planned release date, Ayaneo has not provided a new launch date, only stating that it “will be officially unveiled soon.” Nonetheless, some specifications have been confirmed, including an 8.3-inch IPS display with a 2K (2266 x 1488) resolution, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It will also feature a Qualcomm processor, which was earlier reported to be the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3.

  • Glen Schofield on Stressful Fundraising in Today’s Game Industry

Glen Schofield on Stressful Fundraising in Today’s Game Industry

    Key Takeaways

    1. Glen Schofield, a veteran in game development, may be leaving the industry after 34 years due to challenges in securing funding and competition in AAA gaming.

    2. He and his daughter worked on a new horror game idea that faced significant budget cuts, reducing the initial $17 million budget to as low as $2–5 million, leading to their decision to walk away from the project.

    3. Schofield’s recent game, The Callisto Protocol, received mixed reviews and fell short of sales expectations, prompting his departure from Striking Distance Studios.

    4. Following his exit, he expressed that the AAA gaming industry feels “on pause” and he is shifting focus to art and writing.

    5. Despite stepping back, Schofield remains open to future opportunities and appreciates the support from fans of his games.

Glen Schofield, who is well-known for helping create the Dead Space series and starting Sledgehammer Games, has suggested that he might be done with the video game industry after a long and successful 34-year journey in game development.

    Challenges in Game Development

In a revealing LinkedIn post on July 28, 2025, Schofield discussed the difficulties he faced while looking for funding for a new horror game and the fierce competition in today’s AAA gaming scene. He shared:

“Game industry, it’s tough out there. Over the past eight months, I’ve been quietly working with my daughter, Nicole, on a new game idea. She came to me with it, and I immediately loved the idea. Something I hadn’t seen before. We’ve been calling it a new sub-genre of horror–not just horror, but something more.”

    Budget Cuts and Team Changes

The game was set to have a budget of $17 million, developed by a small U.S. team of six and a larger crew in the U.K. However, as discussions moved forward, publishers insisted on reducing the budget to a smaller $10 million limit, which eventually fell to a low of $2–5 million.

Schofield explained why he decided to step back from the project:

“So, last month, we decided to walk away. Some new ideas are better left untouched than done cheaply. We had a team of six in the States and a full crew in the UK. Now, everyone’s looking for work. They’re all talented folks – if you’re hiring, let me know.”

    After The Callisto Protocol

Schofield’s exit comes after he directed The Callisto Protocol in 2022 at Striking Distance Studios, which he established in 2019. The game underwent several narrative changes, starting with concepts linked to the PUBG universe before transforming into a standalone sci-fi horror experience.

Sadly, the game got a mixed response, scoring 69/100 on Metacritic due to various bugs and performance troubles. According to SteamDB, The Callisto Protocol sold 2 million copies and reached a peak of 17,580 concurrent players.

This performance was significantly below Krafton’s target of 5 million sales. Following this lack of commercial success, Schofield chose to leave Striking Distance in September 2023, with Steve Papoutsis taking over the role of CEO.

    Future Plans

With Schofield mentioning that the AAA industry is currently “on pause,” he has returned to focusing on art and writing. Yet, he remains open to potential opportunities, stating: “Who knows? If so, thank you for playing my games.”

  • New Friday the 13th Film and Game in Development by Horror Inc.

New Friday the 13th Film and Game in Development by Horror Inc.

    Key Takeaways

    1. A new sequel game and film for Friday the 13th are in early development according to Robbie Barsamian from Horror Inc.
    2. The franchise was on hiatus for 16 years, with the last film being a reboot in 2009.
    3. The 2017 game, Friday the 13th: The Game, achieved significant success with over 1.8 million copies sold and a large player base.
    4. Legal challenges delayed progress on the franchise, leading to the game’s removal from sale in 2023.
    5. Future developments may shift towards a more realistic, narrative-focused gameplay experience.

At the panel for the Jason Universe Initiative during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Robbie Barsamian, who serves as Vice President of Horror Inc., finally tackled a major concern for Friday the 13th enthusiasts. He revealed that a new “sequel game” for Friday the 13th is currently in the early stages of development, as well as a new sequel film.

    Franchise History

The Friday the 13th series had been on hiatus for a long time, specifically 16 years, with the last installment being a reboot released in 2009. During the panel at SDCC, Barsamian shared with the audience, “I can tell you that a new sequel movie and a new sequel game are at the top of our list. It’s where most of our energy is going right now, and I can tell you we’re finally in a position to deliver on that. While we’re not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works.”

    Game Success

The 2017 title, Friday the 13th: The Game, was an asymmetrical multiplayer experience created by IIIFonic, published by Gun Media. In this game, one person took on the role of Jason Voorhees while others played as camp counselors attempting to survive at Camp Crystal Lake. This format bore similarities to Dead by Daylight and helped shape the asymmetrical cooperative horror survival genre we recognize today.

This game built up a dedicated fanbase, achieving sales of over 1.8 million copies by August 2017 and raking in $30.3 million in revenue. It even hit an all-time high of 16,096 players online at once more than eight years ago.

    Legal Challenges

However, the franchise faced legal challenges that stalled progress, especially when original writer Victor Miller and director Sean Cunningham halted updates in 2018. Eventually, the game was removed from sale on December 31, 2023, after its licensing expired. A year later, official servers were taken down, although a fan-created mod called Friday the 13th: Resurrected keeps the game available on PC.

The direction of the sequel remains uncertain. In a 2023 interview with composer Harry Manfredi, it was indicated that the franchise might depart from the asymmetrical gameplay, moving towards a “more realistic looking” approach, suggesting a linear, narrative-focused experience similar to horror titles like Alien: Isolation.

    Future of the Franchise

Horror Inc. introduced the Jason Universe in May 2024 to revitalize the franchise across various media. Currently, there is no known timeline for when the next Friday the 13th game will be released. With legal obstacles seemingly cleared, fans are eagerly anticipating Jason’s comeback on modern consoles and PC.

    5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was a commercial success, becoming the top-selling premium game of 2024, with 500 million lifetime sales by October 2024.

Call of Duty and Monster Energy have teamed up once again, with new cans themed around Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 already appearing in stores. This initiative gives players the chance to earn in-game rewards ahead of the game’s anticipated release on November 14, 2025.

    The New Cans and Rewards

CharlieIntel first shared images of these cans on X on July 27, 2025. The cans feature the logo of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Previously, the promotion included cans for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which had redeemable codes hidden under the silver pull tabs. Gamers could simply log into their Activision accounts, visit the callofduty.com/redeem site, and input their promotional codes.

Each can provides 15-minute double XP tokens, with a maximum of 40 hours available. This totals to needing 160 cans, which would cost over $300. The Monster Energy promotion for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has come to an end as Activision shifts focus to the next game in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was teased on June 19, 2025, which interestingly aligns with the date of “Cordis Die” in the Black Ops 2 narrative. This event involved the terrorist group led by Raul Menendez attacking Los Angeles.

A complete reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set for Gamescom 2025 on August 19. The game is a direct sequel to both Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6, taking place in 2035. It features the return of David Mason, the son of Alex Mason, and promises a mind-bending co-op campaign alongside fresh multiplayer maps.

    The Ongoing Zombie Storyline

Additionally, the Dark Aether Zombies storyline will continue, following the events of “The Reckoning” at Janus Towers, which is expected to launch on August 7 with Black Ops 6 Season 5.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 received praise from critics upon its release, becoming the top-selling premium game not just in December but throughout all of 2024. By October 2024, the franchise had achieved 500 million lifetime sales, counting both digital and physical versions of its games.

As noted by SteamDB, Black Ops 6 reached a record peak of 315,334 players on October 28, 2024, and currently enjoys a stable 24-hour peak of 79,458 players at the time of this writing.

  • Battlefield 6 Reaches 500,000 Steam Wishlists in 2 Days

Battlefield 6 Reaches 500,000 Steam Wishlists in 2 Days

    Key Takeaways

    1. Battlefield 6 gained 500,000 wishlists on Steam shortly after its first trailer release, showcasing strong player interest.
    2. The single-player campaign trailer, featuring NATO forces against Pax Armata in New York, received positive community feedback.
    3. About 60% of wishlists came from players of Battlefield 2042, despite the previous game’s mixed reviews.
    4. Battlefield 6’s Steam page is trending, surpassing other highly anticipated titles like Metal Gear Solid Delta and EA Sports FC 26.
    5. A multiplayer reveal event is set for July 31, 2025, and a potential launch date is leaked for October 11, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.

The excitement for EA and DICE’s upcoming game, Battlefield 6, has reached new heights. Over the weekend of July 26th and 27th, the game amassed an incredible 500,000 wishlists on Steam, just a day after the first trailer was revealed. This surge in interest shows a strong demand and anticipation among players for the game.

    Wishlist Milestones

Rickard Linder, the CEO of Alinea Analytics, shared this impressive wishlist data in a LinkedIn update on July 28, 2025. The community’s reaction to the single-player campaign trailer has been overwhelmingly positive. This trailer focuses on NATO forces combating the Pax Armata military group during an attack in New York.

The initial Battlefield 6 trailer has racked up 7,803,687 views and received 473,000 likes. These numbers do not include additional uploads that have driven total views into the tens of millions.

    Player Engagement Insights

Further details from Alinea Analytics suggest that around 60% of the wishlists originated from players who had played Battlefield 2042 on Steam, despite some mixed reviews. Battlefield 6’s Steam page went live on July 24, and its remarkable wishlist count has placed it at the forefront of Steam’s trending titles, even surpassing highly awaited games like the UE5-powered Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and EA Sports FC 26.

The franchise is still working through the rough launch of Battlefield 2042 back in 2021, which managed to sell 4.23 million copies but faced backlash due to significant bugs and missing features.

    Community Expectations

Data from SteamDB reveals that Battlefield 2042 reached a peak of 107,376 players on the platform, with a user rating of just 46.7% from 303,673 reviews. However, with Battlefield 6 receiving a strong and favorable response, many believe it will easily exceed these numbers.

Gamers are eager for a revival of the franchise and are particularly looking forward to the return of the chaotic and destructible environments that made Battlefield popular in the first place.

Battlefield 6 is set for a multiplayer reveal event on July 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, which will involve hundreds of content creators and streamers experiencing the multiplayer mode firsthand.

    Release Information

Additionally, a leak via EA’s legal disclaimer page hinted at an October 11, 2025, launch date, although that page has since been removed. The game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam, but will not be released for the older PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

  • GTA 6: Former Rockstar Dev Says Focus on Graphics Over 60 FPS

GTA 6: Former Rockstar Dev Says Focus on Graphics Over 60 FPS

    Key Takeaways

    1. The latest GTA 6 trailer features impressive textures, realistic lighting, and reflections, but there are concerns about performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
    2. A former technical director suggests using frame rate caps to ensure the game runs smoothly on current consoles, with 30 fps being a more realistic option for visual quality.
    3. Many gamers are accustomed to 60 fps in newer titles, which may lead to mixed reactions regarding the frame rate discussions for GTA 6.
    4. Digital Foundry expresses skepticism about the PS5 Pro’s ability to enhance performance, as it shares the same CPU, potentially limiting improvements in GTA 6’s intricate open world.
    5. The release date for GTA 6 is set for May 26, 2026, with speculation that further delays might align its launch with next-gen consoles like the PS6, expected around 2027 or later.

The latest GTA 6 trailer highlights stunning textures, boasting realistic lighting and reflections. However, there’s a concern that the PS5 and Xbox Series X might struggle under the game’s demands. To ensure the game can run on current consoles, a former technical director from various GTA projects has proposed implementing frame rate caps.

    Technical Insights on Frame Rates

Vermeij departed from Rockstar Games following the launch of GTA 4 back in 2009. On social media, he was questioned about the challenges of having a 60 fps option in GTA 6. He clarified that while achieving a higher frame rate is feasible, it would compromise the game’s visual quality. Since the game is primarily a cinematic experience rather than a competitive multiplayer, 30 fps is deemed a more sensible option.

Gamer Reactions to Frame Rate Discussions

As frame rate remains a hot topic, Vermeij’s remarks may not sit well with all gamers. Nowadays, many newer games run at 60 fps, unlike in previous generations. Nevertheless, both the aging PS5 and Xbox Series X may struggle to keep up with the demands of the most advanced games.

    Future Consoles and Performance Expectations

While the PS5 Pro might appear to be the clear answer, Digital Foundry is skeptical about its impact. They noted that the console’s CPU is the same, which could hinder performance in the intricate open world of GTA 6. The game is expected to showcase more characters on screen and realistic movements, such as flowing hair strands. Still, there are whispers that achieving 60 fps might still be on the table. Moreover, some developers have remarked that few titles truly exploit the capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

If the initial trailers for GTA 6 are anything to go by, the PS6 could be better suited for a 60 fps performance mode. Although this next-gen console may not launch until 2027 or later, any delays with GTA 6 might actually work in its favor. Currently, the release date for GTA 6 is set for May 26, 2026, but further delays could align its launch with the next generation of consoles.

  • Mandatory Age Verification Required for Xbox Accounts in the UK

Mandatory Age Verification Required for Xbox Accounts in the UK

    Key Takeaways

    1. Microsoft will begin age verification for Xbox accounts in the UK to comply with the Online Safety Act effective July 25, 2025.
    2. Users aged 18 and older will receive prompts to verify their age using methods like government ID or credit card checks.
    3. Microsoft partnered with Yoti for identity verification, but players can still access games without verification until early 2026, when social features will require it.
    4. There are concerns about privacy risks and sensitive information sharing related to the new regulations, with opposition from groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
    5. Some users are finding workarounds to bypass the verification process, leading to increased VPN usage.

Microsoft has revealed that it will start the age verification process for Xbox accounts in the UK to follow the Online Safety Act, which became effective on July 25, 2025.

    New Regulations for Online Platforms

This law mandates that social media and entertainment companies must set up a user verification system that stops children from accessing harmful or inappropriate content meant for older audiences. Numerous adult websites and platforms like Reddit are already implementing these verification methods to adhere to the new regulations.

    Notification for Players

As of today, players who state their account age as 18 or older, are located in the UK, and log into an Xbox experience using a Microsoft account will start receiving messages prompting them to verify their age. Microsoft claims that this will be a “one-time process.” Players can confirm their identity through a government-issued ID, credit card checks, age estimation, or checks from their mobile providers.

    Partnership with Yoti

According to The Verge, Microsoft has teamed up with Yoti, a UK company that specializes in identity verification. Players who opt not to verify their age can still enjoy games on their Xbox accounts. However, starting in early 2026, age verification will be required to access social features on their accounts, such as voice or text chat and game invites.

Microsoft strongly urges players in the UK to “verify their age via this one-time process now to avoid interruptions in their use of social features on Xbox.”

    Alternative Solutions and Concerns

Interestingly, there are already some smart ways to get around this process, like using the photo mode in Death Stranding 2 to skip the verification. The new law has also led to a rise in VPN usage across the country.

This legislation has ignited a huge discussion about the potential risks to privacy and the need to share sensitive information. Various non-profit groups, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation, have voiced their opposition to the bill.

Notably, this scoop comes from the LEGOTtNewsI account on Twitter, indicating a credible source.

    Caution is Key

When a user inquired about the origin of this rumor, the account replied: “It’s from a highly reliable source close to TT Games who has had accurate information before. However, please keep in mind this is merely a rumor and not confirmed, so take it lightly.” This highlights the importance of treating such information with care until an official statement is issued.

Sony Sues Tencent Over Horizon IP Clone Allegations

    Key Takeaways

    1. Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent in California, accusing them of copyright and trademark violations for creating a “slavish clone” of its Horizon series with the game Light of Motiram.

    2. Sony claims that Light of Motiram closely mimics unique aspects of Horizon’s world, including gameplay and character design, particularly resembling Horizon’s main character, Alloy.

    3. Tencent had previously approached Sony in 2024 to collaborate on a mobile game based on Horizon, which Sony declined, leading to the development of Light of Motiram shortly after.

    4. Sony is seeking statutory damages for each infringement and demands that Tencent remove all products and promotional materials related to Light of Motiram.

    5. The gaming community has largely reacted negatively towards Light of Motiram, labeling it a blatant copy of Horizon, which Sony emphasizes in its legal complaint.

Sony has accused Tencent, a large Chinese company, of creating a “slavish clone” of its popular Horizon series. They have taken this matter to the federal court in California, claiming copyright and trademark violations.

    Details of the Lawsuit

In the legal complaint, Sony argues that the new game, Light of Motiram, is being seen by gamers and creators as an obvious copy, mimicking many unique aspects of Horizon’s world. According to information from Reuters, Sony states that Tencent had approached them in 2024 to propose a joint project for a mobile game based on Horizon, an idea that Sony declined. Shortly after, Tencent revealed Light of Motiram.

    The Pitch from Tencent

Tencent suggested a Horizon-themed spin-off infused with “Eastern aesthetics,” featuring multiplayer options and elements like “survival, crafting, and pet taming.” The lawsuit claims that the gameplay, themes, and various artistic aspects of Tencent’s game closely mimic those found in Horizon, including a main character that bears a striking resemblance to Horizon’s Alloy.

Sony also mentioned in the lawsuit that Tencent’s actions have caused significant and irreversible harm to SIE, and they are pursuing statutory damages for “each separate work in the Horizon franchise infringed.” Furthermore, they aim for Tencent to eliminate all products and promotional materials associated with the game.

    Community Reactions

For months, gamers and journalists have been labeling Light of Motiram as a blatant rip-off, a point that Sony highlights in their legal action. It’s quite evident why this sentiment exists.

Tencent revealed Light of Motiram on November 28, 2024, intending to launch it on PC, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS platforms. However, no official release date has been announced yet.
