  • Nintendo urges Japan to restrict generative AI in gaming

Nintendo urges Japan to restrict generative AI in gaming

    Key Takeaways

    1. Nintendo has shifted its stance against the use of generative AI in gaming and is lobbying the Japanese government for regulations.
    2. The Japanese government has created guidelines emphasizing that AI-generated creations should not replicate existing works.
    3. Nintendo leaders express concerns about the risks of generative AI, valuing human creativity over AI trends in game development.
    4. Many game publishers in Japan, including competitors like Capcom, are open to using AI, believing it can be safely integrated into game development.
    5. While Nintendo fans generally support the company’s anti-AI stance, analysts predict that opposition to AI may eventually diminish as the gaming industry evolves.

Executives at Nintendo have, in the past, played down the importance of generative AI in their games. However, the company is now taking a firmer stance against its use by other game developers. Recently, Satoshi Asano, a member of the House of Representatives, spoke about how Nintendo is lobbying the Japanese government on this issue.

    Government Guidelines on AI

On social media, Asano shared that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has put together a “Guidebook for Utilizing Generative AI in Content Creation.” One key point in the guide is that companies need to make sure that creations made by AI do not copy from existing works. Asano also noted that Nintendo, which frequently takes action against copyright violations, is steering clear of generative AI and supports the government’s plans to regulate this technology.

    Warnings From Nintendo Leaders

Nintendo leaders, including President Shuntaro Furukawa, have already expressed concerns about the dangers associated with generative AI. Shigeru Miyamoto, known for his pivotal role in creating many Nintendo games, clarified that the company seldom follows what’s trending in the industry.

    Opinions on AI Regulations

Some critics advocating for regulations believe that clear guidelines are needed for AI’s involvement in gaming. Masahiro Sakurai, who is well-known for creating the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby franchises, admitted that AI could help ease the burden of game development. However, he emphasized that such tools should aim to enhance productivity rather than replace human creativity.

    Different Views Among Publishers

Many game publishers hold contrasting views from Nintendo on this contentious topic. A report by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) revealed that more than half of Japan’s gaming firms are open to using artificial intelligence. Competitors like Capcom are more assured that AI can be employed safely without infringing on copyrights. Some developers are already using machine-generated voiceovers and other AI-created assets in their games, which led Steam to add disclaimers on its store pages.

    Mixed Reactions from Fans

Overall, Nintendo fans tend to back the company’s stance against generative AI. Still, many analysts predict that those opposing this technology will eventually be outmatched. As the landscape of game development continues to shift, it will be fascinating to observe how Nintendo’s perspective on this technology transforms over time.

    3. Atomic Heart, a AAA title from 2023, has a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam and is priced at $59.99.
    4. V Rising, released in 2024, is praised for its action crafting survival gameplay and has a “Very Positive” rating, typically priced at $34.99.
    5. System Shock 2023, a remake of the 1994 classic, combines hacking and exploration with a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, and is priced at $39.99.

Other than game bundles, Humble Bundle has a subscription option. This package gives you a variety of games for a monthly price, which has recently increased to $14.99. Last month, subscribers enjoyed a package valued at $268, featuring popular AAA titles. In relation to the collection for October 2025, three of the eight potential games have been revealed.

    Leak Details

This information comes from MeguminShiro, a well-known leaker who has a reliable history of providing mostly accurate tips. In a comment on SteamGifts, the leaker revealed clues about three games that will be part of the Humble Bundle Choice for October 2025.

    First Game Reveal

One of the clues points to Atomic Heart, a AAA title that debuted in 2023 and has garnered positive feedback from players. Set in a stunning utopian environment, many fans appreciate the crafting mechanics and the drivable open spaces within the game world.

Nonetheless, some gamers argue that the open-world aspect is a bit lacking, and others think the pacing is inconsistent. When not on sale, Atomic Heart is priced at $59.99 and currently holds a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam.

    More Game Insights

MeguminShiro also suggests that V Rising will be included in the October 2025 Humble Bundle Choice. This action-adventure game, released in 2024, has received praise from many players. The game’s approach to action crafting survival is well-received, and the boss battles are considered to be particularly well-done.

However, some critics mention that it doesn’t feature the traditional elements of story development. The usual price for V Rising is $34.99 when there are no discounts, and it has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam right now.

    Final Game Hint

The last game hinted at by MeguminShiro is System Shock 2023, a remake of the classic released back in 1994. This cyberpunk-themed game combines hacking, combat, and exploration, accompanied by a rich storyline.

While the updated graphics and gameplay have been well-received, some players find the design to be somewhat challenging and at times frustrating. System Shock is priced at $39.99 and boasts a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with over 7,000 reviews.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has made a big impact on countless players globally, thanks to its engaging gameplay and strong narrative. A vibrant community of modders has developed around this game, and one such individual has crafted an interesting mod that lets gamers experience the memories of those who Arthur Morgan has killed.

    Engaging NPC Interactions

It’s worth mentioning that players often interact with NPCs in this game, providing assistance through side quests or solving various mysteries. The mod in question was developed by the streamer Blurbs, inspired by a comment he received on one of his videos that discussed this concept.

    Flashbacks and Emotional Depth

  • Xbox Game Pass Price Hike Justifies Ex-FTC Chair’s Opposition

Xbox Game Pass Price Hike Justifies Ex-FTC Chair’s Opposition

    Key Takeaways

    1. Consumer Concerns Post-Acquisition: Former FTC chair Lina Khan raised alarms about rising prices and market consolidation after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

    2. Xbox Game Pass Price Increases: Following the acquisition, Xbox Game Pass subscription fees have increased significantly, contradicting Microsoft’s earlier promises during court hearings.

    3. Impact of Market Power: Khan suggested that Microsoft’s strong market position may lead to indifference toward customer concerns, highlighting a “too big to care” mentality.

    4. Counterarguments from Microsoft Supporters: Supporters argue that some FTC predictions, like Microsoft disadvantaging rivals, have not materialized, with games like Call of Duty remaining accessible on PlayStation.

    5. Wider Industry Pricing Issues: Other companies like PlayStation and Nintendo are also facing criticism for price hikes, indicating broader issues in the gaming market beyond just Microsoft.

After Microsoft took over Activision Blizzard in 2023, some gamers were happy about the bigger Xbox games library. Yet, former FTC chair Lina Khan raised worries about how this deal might affect consumers. After another price hike for Xbox Game Pass, Khan shared her thoughts on social media, reminding people of the FTC’s unsuccessful attempt to challenge the agreement in court.

    Rising Prices and Market Concerns

Khan responded to a tweet by Lee Hepner, who pointed out the increasing subscription fees for Game Pass. She highlighted that, since the acquisition, some studios have shut down and prices for certain products have shot up. Khan stated, “increasing market consolidation and increasing prices often go hand-in-hand.” With Microsoft’s strong position in the market, it’s like they are “too big to care” about the adverse effects on customers.

    Microsoft’s Promises Under Scrutiny

Critics often reference a promise made by Microsoft during the 2023 court hearings, where they denied that the acquisition would cause Xbox Game Pass prices to rise. Now, just a couple of years later, the Ultimate tier costs $29.99 monthly, while the lower tiers offer less value. Analysts attribute these high prices to the merger and some poor decisions, especially when paired with expensive Xbox consoles.

Khan was right about many consequences stemming from the Activision Blizzard deal. However, supporters of Microsoft might argue that some predictions from the FTC have not come true. The U.S. agency feared that Microsoft could misuse its power to disadvantage rivals like PlayStation. Instead, games such as Call of Duty are more accessible on the PS5, rather than becoming exclusive to Xbox.

    PlayStation’s Pricing Issues

PlayStation has also been accused of engaging in anti-competitive behavior. Consumer advocates claim that the PS Store prevents competitors from offering lower-priced digital games. While it’s unclear if tariffs are entirely responsible, Sony has raised the prices for PlayStation Plus subscriptions and PS5 systems as well.

On the other hand, Nintendo is selling the original Switch along with new games and accessories at elevated MSRPs. Still, right now, the bulk of consumer frustration seems to be directed at Microsoft.

  • Fighting Game Franchise Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass

Fighting Game Franchise Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass

    Key Takeaways

    1. Microsoft may add Mortal Kombat 1 to Game Pass Premium amid rising subscription prices.
    2. Promotional materials for Mortal Kombat 1 have appeared in the Xbox Game Pass section of the Microsoft Store.
    3. Many gamers are hesitant to subscribe to Game Pass due to the new pricing and the cost of Mortal Kombat 1.
    4. Current Game Pass subscribers could soon play Mortal Kombat 1, which is a reboot of the franchise.
    5. Official confirmation from Microsoft is pending, but Mortal Kombat 1 might be included in the Game Pass lineup for November or December.

Amid the recent hikes in prices for Game Pass subscriptions and the backlash that followed, it looks like Microsoft might be adding a game from the Mortal Kombat series to Game Pass Premium.

Possible Hints on Mortal Kombat 1

Recently, there have been some promotional materials for Mortal Kombat 1 spotted on the Xbox Game Pass section of the Microsoft Store (according to VGT Gaming News on X). Even though the Mortal Kombat franchise is very popular, many gamers aren’t too excited. This is partly due to the new pricing for Game Pass, where buying Mortal Kombat 1 directly costs about the same as just one month of Game Pass. For a lot of players, it seems illogical to pay for a subscription when a big part of the fun comes from competitive multiplayer, which is essential to the Mortal Kombat games.

    Exciting Times for Current Subscribers

If you’re already subscribed to Game Pass, you might soon get the chance to play the newest entry in this iconic fighting series. Mortal Kombat 1 is actually the twelfth game in the lineup, but it acts as a reboot, offering a new take on some classic characters and memorable fatalities that have defined the fighting game world since the early 2000s.

    Waiting for Official Confirmation

As of now, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 will join Game Pass, and it hasn’t shown up in previous leaks about upcoming Game Pass titles. However, since Microsoft refreshes the Game Pass game list every month, it seems probable that Mortal Kombat 1 could be included in the line-up for November or December.

Mortal Kombat 1 has a Gold Proton rating, meaning it should run smoothly on handheld gaming devices using Linux, such as the Lenovo Legion Go S (currently priced at $683 on Amazon).

  • Halo: Combat Evolved Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Reportedly Coming

Halo: Combat Evolved Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Reportedly Coming

    Key Takeaways

    1. Remake in Progress: A detailed leak confirms that a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is being developed by Halo Studios, previously known as 343 Industries.

    2. Complete Rebuild: The remake will be built from the ground up, unlike the Master Chief Collection, and is planned for release on PlayStation 5.

    3. Collaboration with Abstraction Games: Abstraction Games is co-developing the remake and will focus on adding accessibility features while maintaining the game’s essence.

    4. Technical Expertise: Abstraction has a successful history with complex game remakes and will use a hybrid engine setup combining the modified Blam engine and Unreal Engine 5.

    5. New Features and Concerns: The remake will introduce new gameplay features, like sprinting and redesigned levels, but some worry that the hybrid engine could affect the original game’s charm and performance.

Whispers of a Halo: Combat Evolved remake are getting louder as a detailed leak from veteran Halo Insider Rebs Gaming says that three different sources have confirmed that the project is in progress at Halo Studios, which was once called 343 Industries.

    New Beginnings for Halo

In a 15-minute video, Rebs shared that Halo: Combat Evolved’s remake will not be a simple update like the controversial Master Chief Collection from 2014, which took five years to get to PC due to technical issues. Instead, it appears the game will be completely rebuilt from the ground up, with a launch on PlayStation 5 in mind.

    Collaboration with Abstraction Games

Abstraction Games, a company based in the Netherlands that was bought by Virtuos in December 2024, is said to be co-developing or doing “most of the work” on this remake. This studio has previously lent support for the Master Chief Collection and has a solid history of working on complex games.

Abstraction is also working to add accessibility features for gamers with disabilities, along with some improvements that could “enhance Halo without altering its essence or giving unfair advantages in multiplayer.”

    Technical Expertise and Quality

Known for successfully porting and remaking technically challenging games, Abstraction has contributed to titles like Dune: Awakening and Baldur’s Gate 3. With their impressive background, they seem to be well-suited for the task of remaking the groundbreaking FPS that introduced Master Chief to players back in 2001.

Rebs also highlighted that the remake will utilize a hybrid engine setup, similar to the recent Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The gameplay mechanics will be built on a modified Blam engine from Halo: Reach, while most of the visuals will be handled by Unreal Engine 5.

    Fresh Features and Concerns

Rebs mentioned earlier that the Halo: CE remake will introduce a sprint feature and redesigned levels to improve pacing, which suggests the remake is aiming for more than just a visual upgrade. He also noted that the project has oversight from Halo Studios’ lead Pierre Hintze, which will help keep Halo Combat Evolved’s legacy intact.

Nonetheless, skeptics argue that hybrid engines could lessen the original game’s charm, similar to the open-world aspects of Halo Infinite, and raise worries about performance issues akin to those seen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

As Halo Studios has confirmed a “deep dive” into upcoming projects on HaloWC’s main stage, it looks like the return of Halo: Combat Evolved is on the way.

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Increase Provokes Outrage in Brazil, Greece, South America

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Increase Provokes Outrage in Brazil, Greece, South America

    Key Takeaways

    1. Price increases for Xbox Game Pass have reached over 100% in emerging economies, significantly higher than the 50% rise in the U.S.
    2. Many players are canceling their subscriptions due to dissatisfaction with the price hikes and lack of access to promised features like cloud streaming.
    3. In Brazil, the price of Game Pass Ultimate nearly doubled, now representing about 8% of the country’s minimum wage.
    4. Other regions, like Greece and South Africa, are also facing steep price increases, further straining users with lower average incomes.
    5. Microsoft’s rebranding and price changes may lead to a decline in total subscriber figures, as they fail to address regional economic realities and purchasing power.

Microsoft’s latest rebranding efforts and price increases for Xbox Game Pass have led to a lot of anger among users all over the world. In certain areas, this price hike has created a real challenge, especially for emerging economies like Brazil, Turkey, Greece, and South Africa, where the impact is the most severe.

    Dramatic Price Increases

In these regions, price hikes have reached over 100%, contrasting sharply with the 50% rise seen in the United States. Additionally, some of these areas do not have access to Xbox Cloud streaming at all. To provide some background, on October 1, 2025, Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes console, PC, and cloud gaming, from $19.99 to $29.99 per month in the U.S. Microsoft justified this increase by adding Ubisoft+ Classics, Fortnite Crew, and promising at least 75 new titles on their release date each year.

    Global Discontent

Players around the world have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media, leading many to cancel their Game Pass subscriptions following the announcement. However, the financial strain is felt particularly hard in regions where income and currency values are different. Paul Tassi mentioned on X that the cost of Game Pass Ultimate has effectively doubled in Brazil.

In Brazil, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s price has surged almost 100%, rising from R$59.99 to R$119.90 monthly. This equates to about $22 USD, up from $11. To put this into perspective, it represents around 8% of Brazil’s monthly minimum wage of 1,500 BRL.

    Other Regions Affected

Other subscription levels have also experienced price hikes, with the Essential (previously Core) increasing by 25% to R$43.90, while the Premium (Standard) rose by 33% to R$59.90. Adding to the frustration, some features promoted by Microsoft, like enhanced 1440p cloud streaming, are still not available in Brazil.

Similarly, in Greece, Game Pass has seen the same price increases as in Germany, where Game Pass Ultimate now costs €26.99, or about $31. When comparing incomes, the average salary in Germany is double that of Greece, which has one of the lowest average wages in the EU and lacks access to Xbox Cloud streaming.

In South Africa, the price of Game Pass Ultimate has shot up to R350 per month from R200, a 75% increase, which is quite significant, especially given the median income in the region.

    Regional Realities

While Microsoft claims that these changes are part of the global evolution of Game Pass, they seem to overlook regional issues like low purchasing power and the unavailability of promised features. This situation could lead to the first decline in total subscriber figures, even as pressure mounts on executives for improved profitability. The Redmond-based tech giant is navigating through a challenging period marked by numerous layoffs and project cancellations in 2025.

  • Arrowhead: Helldivers 2’s Storage Issues Due to HDD Support

Arrowhead: Helldivers 2’s Storage Issues Due to HDD Support

    Key Takeaways

    1. Helldivers 2’s PC installation size has reached 150 GB, significantly larger than the 50 GB console versions.
    2. The large file size is due to duplicated data to improve loading times for older mechanical HDDs, not unnecessary bloat.
    3. Arrowhead Game Studios is committed to supporting both HDD and SSD users, creating challenges in file size management.
    4. The game maintains a solid player base of 50,000 to 60,000 daily players on Steam despite the growing storage issues.
    5. Arrowhead plans to remove unused assets in future patches, but new content updates may continue to increase the overall file size.

While Helldivers 2 is still leading the multiplayer co-op shooter arena, it is encountering a significant storage dilemma due to the game’s ever-increasing size with updates. As of October 2025, the installation size on PC has ballooned to 150 GB, nearly three times larger than its console versions, which sit around 50 GB.

    Storage Choices Explained

The difference in storage requirements isn’t due to 4K textures or unnecessary bloat, but rather a deliberate decision by Arrowhead Game Studios to ensure compatibility with older systems, particularly for gamers using mechanical hard drives (HDDs), which are still part of the minimum system specs for the game.

To clarify the Helldivers 2 storage issue, Arrowhead posted an honest message on the official Helldivers 2 subreddit. The deputy technical director explained, “This is mainly due to duplicated data, necessary for improving loading times on older storage like mechanical HDDs.”

    Technical Reasons Behind Duplication

Having duplicate textures and models stored on the drive helps to reduce seek times on HDDs, where random access can significantly slow down gameplay. Conversely, SSDs can access data more quickly, regardless of its location, which makes this duplication unnecessary. This explains why the console versions of Helldivers 2 are much smaller in size.

Helldivers 2 still boasts an impressive daily average of 50,000 to 60,000 players on Steam. While this is a bit less than the initial launch numbers, it’s still a solid figure. However, the growing file size presents a challenge for Arrowhead, who must maintain support for HDD users while also accommodating players with newer SSDs.

    Ongoing Content Updates

Even with these challenges, Arrowhead is committed to releasing content updates, which bring new biomes, weapons, and different Terminid and Automaton types to the game. These duplications have transformed what was once a slim 36 GB at launch into a massive file size, leading to complaints from the Helldivers 2 Steam community about storage issues.

Currently, Arrowhead has drawn a line in the sand, stating, “We can’t remove all duplication without making loading times for mechanical HDDs ten times slower, and we consider this unacceptable.”

In the meantime, Arrowhead has pledged to remove unused assets for immediate improvements in a future patch, but it is anticipated that any new content added will gradually negate those fixes, potentially creating ongoing headaches for gamers who have limited storage capacity, especially in such a busy release year like 2025.

    Unique Designs for Fans

    Three Iconic Models

At the heart of this collection are three sneaker designs, each celebrating one of the franchise’s beloved characters. The Puma Inhale shines in Sonic’s bright cobalt blue, featuring lace shrouds shaped like Sonic, removable hook-and-loop heel tabs, and interchangeable Formstrips that mimic Sonic’s quills, all accented by a golden ring hanging from the laces.
