  • Samsung Galaxy A57 5G & A37 5G Launch with New Exynos Chips

    Samsung Galaxy A57 5G & A37 5G Launch with New Exynos Chips

    Key Takeaways

    1. Samsung launched the Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G, featuring One UI 8.5 and design improvements over previous models.
    2. The Galaxy A57 5G has significant upgrades, including a new Exynos 1680 SoC, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a brighter 120 Hz display with 1,900 nits peak brightness.
    3. The camera system remains the same as the A56, but an improved Image Signal Processor enhances image quality, especially for portraits.
    4. The Galaxy A37 features minor upgrades over the A36, including a new Exynos 1480 SoC and an upgraded ISP for better low-light photography, while maintaining the same display and camera configurations.
    5. Both models will be available on April 10, with a pre-order incentive for double storage until April 18, and they share a 5,000 mAh battery and 45 W charging capability.

Samsung has launched the updated Galaxy A series mid-range smartphones, introducing the Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G. These new models come equipped with One UI 8.5 and maintain the design of their earlier versions, but they include several notable enhancements.

Major Upgrades in Galaxy A57 5G

The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G has received the most significant upgrades among the new mid-range devices. Key enhancements feature the new octa-core Exynos 1680 SoC built on a 4 nm process, IP68 water and dust resistance, and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0, along with a brighter display.

Additionally, the Galaxy A57 5G is now more compact, slimmer at 6.9 mm, and lighter at 179 g compared to the Galaxy A56, while still boasting the same 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung has achieved this by reducing the size of the display bezels. The 6.7-inch FHD+ 120 Hz screen now offers a peak brightness of 1,900 nits, making it more vibrant.

    Camera System and Image Quality

Unfortunately, the camera setup appears to remain unchanged from the Galaxy A56, which is starting to feel outdated. We still have the same triple-camera arrangement with a:

Samsung asserts that an improved Image Signal Processor (ISP) enables the Galaxy A57 to capture more colorful and clearer images with less noise. The device is also said to produce better portrait shots thanks to advanced AI subject separation.

The Galaxy A57 5G keeps the premium metallic edges, Gorilla Glass Victus+ covering both the front and back, along with a substantial 5,000 mAh battery from the Galaxy A56. Users can fast-charge the device using a 45 W charger, sold separately by Samsung.

    Galaxy A37: Minor Changes

On the other hand, the Galaxy A37 is largely similar to the Galaxy A36, with just a few notable differences. The most significant updates for the Galaxy A37 include the new 4 nm Exynos 1480 SoC with eight cores, an IP68 rating, and an upgraded ISP. Samsung claims the new ISP will enhance low-light photography by reducing noise and improving sharpness and color accuracy.

Everything else, including the triple-camera configuration, the front-facing camera, and the 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, has not changed.

Fortunately, like the Galaxy A57, the Galaxy A37’s display can also reach a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. Unlike the A57, the A37 still features the thicker bezels, dimensions, and weight of 196 g from its predecessor.

    Availability and Pricing

The Galaxy A37 5G, like its sibling, shares the 45 W charging capability, 5,000 mAh battery, and One UI 8.5. Based on Android 16 QPR2, One UI 8.5 introduces a refreshed look and a range of AI features, including Circle to Search, for the new Galaxy A series.

Both the Galaxy A57 5G and the Galaxy A37 5G are set to be available for purchase starting April 10. Samsung has also offered a pre-order incentive of double the storage, meaning if you pre-order either the Galaxy A57 or Galaxy A37 before April 18, you’ll receive double the storage at no additional cost.

    4. It boasts a maximum print speed of 600 mm/s but is recommended to operate at around 300 mm/s for the best quality.
    5. The Kobra X features a camera for failure detection and flow-dynamics calibration for improved print quality; an enclosed design option is available with the QIDI Q2 Combo.

Anycubic, a familiar name in the 3D printing world, has recently introduced their new model, the Kobra X. You can now preorder this printer for US$279 or €269, which is a nice drop from the original price of US$399 and €389. Expect shipping to start in April, so just a bit of waiting will be necessary.

    Features and Functionality

The Kobra X can work with up to 19 different filaments and has the capacity for four filament spools right out of the box. This feature allows users to create multicolor prints and utilize various filament types in one model. The design of the printer is tailored to reduce material waste when using multiple filaments. It achieves this by shortening the distance between the filament cutter and the nozzle, ensuring that less material is wasted during filament changes. This tweak also speeds up printing, which is especially useful for projects that need frequent filament switching.

    Specifications

When it comes to build size, the Anycubic Kobra X has a volume of 260 × 260 × 260 mm (10.2 × 10.2 × 10.2 in). The printer’s open design means that the build area isn’t regulated for temperature. However, the heated bed can reach temperatures up to 110°C (230°F), while the hotend can climb to 300°C (572°F). The official specifications claim a maximum print speed of 600 mm/s, although Anycubic suggests operating around 300 mm/s for optimal results. It also includes additional features like a camera to detect failures and flow-dynamics calibration to ensure high-quality prints.

  • Epic Games Cuts 1,000 Jobs to Stay Afloat Amid Challenges

Epic Games Cuts 1,000 Jobs to Stay Afloat Amid Challenges

    Key Takeaways

    1. Epic Games is experiencing significant layoffs, with over 1,000 employees let go due to declining Fortnite engagement and financial struggles.
    2. The company is implementing over $500 million in cost-saving measures, including cuts to contracts, marketing, and open positions.
    3. The gaming industry is facing broader challenges, such as lower consumer spending and slower growth, impacting companies like Epic Games.
    4. Epic Games has a history of overcoming tough periods, but it remains uncertain if they can navigate their current challenges successfully.
    5. Laid-off employees in the U.S. will receive health insurance for six months and a severance package of at least four months’ salary.

Although Epic Games is known for much more than just Fortnite, any decline in this key game’s popularity seems to affect the whole company. Currently, the American firm employs over 4,000 people while managing the widely used Unreal Engine, the Epic Games Store, and numerous games. The titles released by Epic Games Publishing include Fall Guys, Alan Wake Remastered, PC Building Simulator 2, End of Abyss, among others. Unfortunately, troubles that started in 2025 are still causing difficulties for them.

    Layoffs Announced

A message sent to employees at Epic yesterday stated:

“We’re letting go of more than 1000 Epic employees today. I regret that we find ourselves in this position again. The drop in engagement for Fortnite that began in 2025 has resulted in us spending much more than what we earn, and significant cuts are necessary to keep the company afloat. This layoff, along with over $500 million in identified savings through contracts, marketing, and closing certain open positions, helps us to create a more secure future.”

    Industry Challenges

The message also discussed challenges faced across the industry, like lower spending and slower growth, along with stricter cost measures. It pointed out some unique difficulties for Epic, such as the ongoing effort to provide appealing Fortnite content each season and the initial phase of re-entering the mobile market while optimizing for that platform.

    Historical Context

Additionally, the note reflected on the tough periods Epic had in the 1990s during the transition from 2D to 3D with Unreal 1, in the 2000s as they developed console games like Gears of War, and in 2012 when they shifted to online gaming with Paragon and Fortnite. It remains uncertain if they can overcome these challenges yet again.

In the United States, employees who are being laid off will receive health insurance coverage for six months, along with a severance package that guarantees at least four months of their base salary.

The design includes eight screws to secure the frame, which helps to evenly disperse impact forces. However, Polar has not stated whether the visible screws on the face enable easy battery changes.

    Display and Performance

The smartwatch boasts a 1.28-inch AMOLED screen shielded by Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent scratches. It runs on a 275 MHz single-core processor with a mere 32 MB of memory, making it moderately powered. • Xiaomi Faces Crisis: E-Car Growth vs. Falling Smartphone Sales

Xiaomi Faces Crisis: E-Car Growth vs. Falling Smartphone Sales

    Key Takeaways

    1. Xiaomi’s electric vehicle sector is profitable, with a 2025 profit of 900 million yuan and a gross margin of 24.3%, outperforming competitors like BYD and Tesla.
    2. The smartphone division is struggling, with a nearly 24% drop in adjusted net profit due to skyrocketing hardware component costs.
    3. Prices for key components like memory chips have increased significantly, impacting overall profitability.
    4. Future challenges include reduced government subsidies for car purchases and the high costs of advancing AI technology, with plans to invest 60 billion yuan over three years.
    5. Investor anxiety is rising as Xiaomi’s shares have fallen by 21% since the start of the year, raising concerns about balancing vehicle sales with rising costs.

The most recent financial report from Beijing shows a clear divide in Xiaomi’s business performance. Surprisingly, the new electric vehicle sector is already turning a profit, while the company’s conventional smartphone operations are facing a serious downturn. Many people who are dazzled by Xiaomi’s e-car sales numbers are ignoring the significant cost issues that are hiding underneath.

    Electric Vehicle Success

In 2025, Xiaomi sold 411,082 electric vehicles, leading to an operating profit of 900 million yuan (approximately $131 million). This quick shift to profitability is nearly unheard of in the automotive industry. The company also recorded a gross margin of 24.3% with its popular SU7 and YU7 models. In comparison, industry frontrunner BYD is currently at 17.6%, and Tesla is around 15.4%.

    Smartphone Struggles

On the flip side, Xiaomi’s smartphone manufacturing is causing a substantial financial drain. In the fourth quarter, adjusted net profit decreased nearly 24%, dropping to 6.3 billion yuan (about $914 million). The main factor in this decline is the rising cost of hardware components. Prices for memory chips, such as DRAM and NAND, are now nearly four times what they were last year. Suppliers are demanding up to $130 for a standard component with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, compared to the usual $30. These rising expenses are cutting deeply into the profits from their car sales.

    Future Challenges

Looking ahead, the outlook for 2026 appears grim. The Chinese government is set to reduce substantial subsidies for car purchases, which will heighten price competition domestically. Additionally, there’s the expensive challenge of keeping up with advancements in AI. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, plans to allocate at least 60 billion yuan over the next three years for this endeavor. Investors are growing more anxious about the combination of diminishing profit margins and significant capital needs. Since the year started, Xiaomi’s shares have already dropped by 21%. It remains uncertain whether the sales from their vehicles will be able to balance out the enormous cost challenges in the long run.
