Retroid Teases Dual-Screen Clamshell for Late 2026

Just days after unveiling the Pocket Nova in late June, Retroid is already hinting at its next hardware project. The company’s latest handheld, which starts at $229, pairs an IoT version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a 120 Hz AMOLED display but has yet to begin shipping to customers. Meanwhile, attention is shifting toward an even more ambitious design reportedly waiting in the wings.

A New Clamshell on the Horizon

A brief message from an official Retroid account suggests the firm is developing at least one new device targeted for the second half of 2026. The most striking detail is the mention of dual displays, a feature that has circulated in community rumors for months. This strongly indicates a clamshell form factor, potentially positioning the upcoming model as a successor to the current Pocket Flip 2, which is available for $269.

Stepping Up the Competition

Though design specifics and internal specifications remain under wraps, a dual-screen device would likely see Retroid squaring off against AYN Technologies and its popular AYN Thor handheld. Industry watchers expect the so-called Pocket Flip 3 to move well beyond the Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865 chips that power the Pocket Flip 2, adopting a newer, more capable silicon platform to match its premium form factor. With the Pocket Nova still awaiting its retail debut, Retroid appears to be laying the groundwork for a markedly more powerful generation of retro-focused handhelds.
