RedMagic has formally introduced the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, the direct successor to last year’s Astra model. The new device is built around a compact chassis that prioritizes sustained peak performance, aiming to differentiate itself in a niche segment of high-powered portable gaming hardware.
Flagship Silicon Paired with Active Liquid Cooling
At the core of the tablet sits Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. To prevent the thermal throttling that typically accompanies extended play sessions, RedMagic has integrated an active liquid cooling system. That thermal loop is displayed as a visual centerpiece on the rear of the device, visible through a transparent cover and accented with customizable RGB lighting. The screen is a 9.06-inch OLED panel with a 185 Hz refresh rate, a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits, and a full-screen brightness rated at 1,100 nits.
Software and Control Features
The Gaming Tablet 5 Pro ships with a built-in PC emulator that includes Steam compatibility. While the emulator broadens the tablet’s software library considerably, the manufacturer notes that game support is not universal and recommends pairing the device with a gamepad for an optimal experience. Power is supplied by an 8,300 mAh battery, which supports 80-watt wired charging through its dual USB-C ports. A fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button, and a dedicated red hardware slider instantly activates the device’s dedicated gaming mode. The tablet measures 6.9 millimeters thick and weighs 363 grams.
Pricing and Global Availability
In China, the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is listed with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage at CNY 4,999, which roughly converts to $735. Nubia has confirmed that the device will launch internationally under the name RedMagic Astra 2, though official launch timing and regional pricing outside of China have yet to be disclosed.
