Motorola’s upcoming Edge 70 Max has taken a significant step toward launch, appearing in the Wireless Power Consortium’s certification database shortly after detailed marketing renders began circulating online. The filing confirms a feature that sets the device apart in the Android mid-range segment: native Qi 2.2.1 support with the Magnetic Power Profile.

Built-in magnetic charging arrives in the mid-range

The certification reveals that Motorola has embedded magnets directly into the Edge 70 Max chassis. This design choice allows accessories such as wireless power banks, charging stands, and camera grips to attach securely without a specialized case—functionality closely mirroring Apple’s MagSafe ecosystem. Most competing Android handsets, including the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, have adopted a “Qi2 ready” approach that requires a magnet-equipped case to achieve the same attachment. The only other Android devices currently shipping with integrated magnets are the HMD Skyline and the Google Pixel 10 series. The Edge 70 Max supports wireless charging at up to 25 watts, making it a practical option for users who rely on cord-free top-ups.

Processor, camera, and rugged build

Beyond wireless charging, earlier leaks point to a capable hardware package. The phone is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform and carry a 50-megapixel main camera built around a Sony Lytia sensor. Its body has been certified to MIL-STD-810H durability standards, indicating resistance to drops, shocks, and environmental extremes, and will be offered in green, light blue, and black finishes. While the certification listing includes a placeholder image dated 2024, the previously leaked marketing visuals provide a more current representation of the device.

Launch timing and market position

No official launch date has been announced, but WPC certification often precedes a product unveiling by only a few weeks. Motorola appears to be positioning the Edge 70 Max as a premium mid-range contender, blending flagship-level charging convenience and rugged construction with a price point aimed below true flagship territory.
