Huawei’s upcoming MateBook Pro S appears to be taking a significant step toward ultraportability, if an image circulating on Chinese social media proves accurate. A well-known tech leaker on Weibo shared a photograph of a laptop lid bearing Huawei’s flat wordmark resting on a kitchen scale. The display shows a reading of 798.0 grams, suggesting the new model could dip well below the 800-gram threshold and mark a substantial reduction from the roughly 980-gram chassis of the current MateBook X Pro.
Configuration and color range surface
The same source provided an extensive look at planned variants for the device. According to the post, the MateBook Pro S will be offered in Standard, Collector’s, Anti-Peep, and Soft-Light editions. Memory configurations will span 16 GB, 24 GB, and 32 GB, while storage options settle at 512 GB and 1 TB. Five color choices are listed—yellow, white, gray, purple, and black—pointing to a broad consumer push across both professional and lifestyle segments.
New silicon with a familiar foundation
Fresh details about the processor expected to power the laptop have emerged separately on Bilibili. A poster there identified the chip as the Kirin XE90 and characterized it not as a new microarchitecture but as an overclocked, relabeled version of the existing Kirin X90. The listed core cluster includes four cores running at 2.45 GHz with 1 MB of L2 cache, four cores at 2.1 GHz with 1 MB of L2 cache, and two cores at 2.15 GHz paired with 512 KB of L2 cache.
The current Kirin X90 underpins Huawei’s first HarmonyOS PC, recently rebranded as the MateBook Pro, and borrows heavily from the Kirin 9010 architecture. It features an 8 MB system-level cache and a 128-bit memory bus mated to dual-channel LPDDR5-6400. A refreshed, higher-clocked variant would fit neatly into Huawei’s established cadence of refining its in-house Arm-based PC silicon cycle over cycle, rather than debuting entirely new designs with each release.
