Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 5 has taken another step toward launch, appearing in a fresh regulatory filing with the US Federal Communications Commission. The listing follows an earlier certification from India’s BIS, signaling that the wearable is now clearing approvals in multiple key markets.
Multiple variants and connectivity details
FCC documents show four model numbers: G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R. As with the previous generation, these are almost certainly two case sizes, each offered in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi-only and LTE-enabled configurations. Interestingly, every variant submitted to the FCC carries an LTE modem, which suggests Google may ship the hardware uniformly and disable cellular functionality via software on the least expensive model.
On the wireless front, the Pixel Watch 5 supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth, NFC for contactless payments, and ultra-wideband. The inclusion of UWB opens up precise device-finding capabilities and the option to use the watch as a secure digital car key with compatible vehicles.
Emergency satellite connectivity retained
The filing also confirms support for LTE NTN bands 23 and 255, preserving the satellite SOS feature that debuted on the Pixel Watch 4. This allows emergency messaging outside cellular coverage, an increasingly common safety tool in flagship wearables.
What to expect from hardware and design
The certified wireless standards align closely with those of the Pixel Watch 4, suggesting continuity rather than a radical overhaul in connectivity. A recent leaked image indicated the physical design will also remain largely unchanged, a decision that may prove practical given the Pixel Watch 4’s reputation for repairability. While official feature upgrades have yet to surface, industry observers consider an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite processor a plausible enhancement. The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to launch alongside the Pixel 11 series this coming August.
