Competition in the compact SUV segment remains intense, and Citroën is responding with a strategy built around powertrain flexibility. The brand’s new flagship, the Citroën C5 Aircross, debuts as a fully electric model in a long-range configuration that promises to reduce the usual barriers to electric driving. The BEV delivers 170 kW of power and draws from a substantial lithium-ion battery with a net capacity of 97 kWh (104 kWh gross). On the WLTP cycle, this translates to an electric range of up to 679 kilometers, or 422 miles, putting extended highway journeys within comfortable reach.

Charging Performance and Pricing

Charging capability has been designed to match the generous range. An 11-kW onboard AC charger comes standard for home wallboxes and typical urban charging points. On longer trips, the vehicle can accept up to 160 kW at DC fast-charging stations, allowing the battery to go from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 27 minutes under ideal conditions. Pricing for the long-range electric variant starts at €49,690 for the PLUS trim, while the better-equipped MAX version begins at €53,690. A Team D special edition adds further comfort and equipment at the top of the lineup.

Hybrid Alternatives and Interior Space

For buyers not yet ready to switch to a fully electric vehicle, Citroën offers the C5 Aircross in additional powertrain configurations. A smaller-battery BEV will sit alongside a plug-in hybrid and a conventional hybrid. The PHEV bridges the gap between electric daily commuting and combustion-engine range, while the standard hybrid targets drivers seeking fuel savings without using a charging cable. Across all versions, cargo capacity reaches up to 1,668 liters. Inside, the C-Zen Lounge concept prioritizes a living-room atmosphere through soft fabrics, eight-color ambient lighting, massaging seats, and the brand’s Advanced Comfort suspension.

Technology and Driving Assistance

The digital cockpit is anchored by a vertical 13-inch touchscreen with a waterfall design. In higher trims, AI voice control manages vehicle functions and provides direct access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Safety and convenience features include Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beams and the Drive Assist 2.0 package, which enables semi-automatic lane changes and incorporates a 360-degree camera. Built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform and produced at the Rennes plant in France, the new C5 Aircross arrives as the largest and most modern vehicle Citroën has ever built, emphasizing family space and a relaxed driving character at what the company calls a positively surprising price point.
