The Navee Wavefly 5X, described as the first commercially available electric flying speedboat, was officially unveiled in early June. The vessel uses ground-effect aerodynamics to hover just above the water’s surface, delivering the feel of flight without requiring a pilot’s license. That engineering achievement, however, comes at a steep entry point: the Wavefly 5X is priced at $200,000, placing it far beyond the reach of most consumers and squarely in the sights of a narrow luxury and commercial market.

Propulsion and Performance

At the core of the craft are four electric propellers, each capable of producing 8,000 watts of peak power. This layout enables a top speed of 53 mph (83 km/h), putting the Wavefly 5X firmly into speedboat territory. Because it rides on a cushion of air, it avoids much of the pounding through chop that defines a conventional fast boat — a smoother experience that Navee is betting will appeal strongly to high-end adventure resorts and tour operators.

Battery System and Range

A fully electric powertrain also introduces a swappable battery architecture. Users can carry spare packs to restore the vessel’s stated maximum range of 50 miles, or roughly 70 minutes of flight time, once a charge is depleted. Navee says the handling has been tuned to feel intuitive and “like a boat,” meaning anyone comfortable at the helm of standard watercraft should be able to transition quickly to controlled, low-altitude flight. The company is now accepting pre-orders for the model.
