Casio has built a long track record of watch collaborations, but its newest release takes an unconventional turn. The Japanese brand has partnered with South Korean design label GRAGG—a studio known for smartphone cases and accessories defined by a fluid, “liquid” visual language—to create a limited-edition version of the modest LW-204 that comes paired with a sculptural display stand meant for the desk, not the wrist.
A Design Rooted in an Imagined World
The watch, officially named LW-204GRAGG-1BDF, is exclusive to South Korea and commemorates the first anniversary of Cafe Null Dosan and Casio Store Dosan in Seoul. Based on the standard Casio LW-204-1B, the model retains a restrained black-on-black palette and a legible inverted display, but it introduces several deliberate visual shifts. Most notably, the resin strap moves away from a plain finish and is instead engraved with topographic contour lines drawn from GRAGG’s “FROM NEW PLANET” design project. The band also carries the GRAGG logo and the project’s tagline, LANDING FOR HUMANITY. Three pushers on the case side continue to handle all core watch functions.
A Stand That Shifts the Purpose
Where this collaboration truly distinguishes itself is in the accompanying accessory. Rather than centering the entire story on the watch itself, Casio and GRAGG have bundled a custom-designed silver stand that resembles a pool of molten metal. The intent is to give the timepiece what the partners describe as “new value” beyond timekeeping, transforming it into a display object suitable for a shelf or workspace when it is not being worn.
Familiar Specs Underneath
Beneath the cosmetic updates, the watch remains technically identical to the standard LW-204-1B. The lightweight resin case weighs 24 grams and measures 38.9 × 35 × 9.4 mm. It offers 50-meter water resistance, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, a multi-function alarm, an hourly time signal, an amber LED backlight, and a full auto-calendar programmed through 2039. Estimated battery life sits at three years from a CR2016 cell.
Pricing and Limited Availability
The Casio x GRAGG LW-204GRAGG-1BDF is priced at KRW 129,000 (approximately $83) and is sold exclusively through the Casio Store Dosan in South Korea. That figure represents a steep increase over the standard LW-204, though the premium is largely attributed to the bundled display stand and the limited-run nature of the release. In a broader landscape filled with playful crossover editions—stretching from anime tie-ins to nostalgic gaming references—this collaboration leans into minimal, object-focused design, positioning the watch and its stand as a single, studio-like desk accessory.
