References to a new solar-powered smartwatch have surfaced inside the Zepp Health companion app, and a newly leaked image may now offer a first look at the unannounced device. The wearable, which could emerge as a rival to the $949 Garmin Fenix 8 Solar, appears to combine an unconventional control layout with a display technology rarely seen in Amazfit’s current lineup.

A distinctive design with extra controls

An image posted to the Instagram account of Amazfit Spain and spotted by Gadgets & Wearables shows a smartwatch not yet found in the company’s official catalogue. Although the picture is relatively low in resolution, several physical details stand out. The watch features a broad metal bezel and a total of six buttons, a departure from the four-button arrangement common to most Amazfit models.

Display hints point toward low-power screen technology

The screen itself draws attention for reasons beyond its monochrome watch face. The black tones appear far less deep than what an AMOLED panel would typically produce, while the surface reads as matte rather than glossy. These traits suggest the use of a memory-in-pixel (MiP) or ePaper-type display. Such panels can reproduce colour, but their saturation and vibrancy fall well short of AMOLED quality, which helps explain why black-and-white watch faces remain a popular choice on this category of screen. On the unit shown, Amazfit has omitted colour entirely, at least on the visible watch face.

Software clues reinforce solar ambitions

Rumours based on social media images always warrant caution. It is possible that Amazfit edited the photograph using AI tools, which could account for the visual differences compared to existing models. The fact that the individual in the image is wearing the watch upside down adds a further note of uncertainty. Still, separate hints buried in the Zepp Health app’s code point strongly toward development of at least one solar-equipped Amazfit smartwatch. Taken together, the software references and the newly surfaced image suggest the company is preparing a wearable built around extended battery life and outdoor-focused display technology.
