Xiaomi is gearing up to introduce the Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones in China this October. Although the launch is still several months away, details about the Xiaomi 15 lineup are gradually emerging through leaks. The latest information, shared by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, indicates that the 15 Pro will see a significant upgrade in its optical zoom capabilities.
Xiaomi 15 Pro may feature a new periscope telephoto camera
According to the tipster, Xiaomi plans to use a periscope telephoto lens with the IMX8 sensor, providing 5x optical zoom on the engineering prototype of the Xiaomi 15 Pro. Additionally, the device will support the latest AI super-resolution algorithms.
For reference, the Xiaomi 14 Pro does not come with a periscope telephoto camera. Instead, it features a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 telephoto camera with a 3.2x optical zoom. Therefore, the 15 Pro is expected to offer significantly enhanced zoom features.
Camera and Display Specifications
An earlier leak from the same tipster revealed that the Xiaomi 15 Pro would come with a 50-megapixel main camera, possibly the OV50K OmniVision 50-megapixel primary camera. While the previous model supported a variable aperture for its primary camera, it is anticipated that the 15 Pro will not have this feature. Details about the 15 Pro’s ultra-wide camera remain scarce, but it is likely to retain a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens similar to the 14 Pro.
Other reports suggest that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will feature a 6.73-inch micro-curved OLED panel with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor and will include a 5,400mAh battery with 120W fast charging capabilities.
