In October, Qualcomm is set to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, while MediaTek is gearing up to introduce the Dimensity 9400 chipset. Today, tipster Digital Chat Station disclosed that Vivo will be the pioneer in launching a smartphone powered by the Dimensity 9400.
Dimensity 9400 Expected in October
According to the tipster, the Dimensity 9400, identified by the model number MT6991, will boast impressive energy efficiency. It leverages TSMC’s second-generation N3 process and features a CPU configuration consisting of 1 x Cortex-X5 super core, 3 x Cortex-X4 cores, and 4 x Cortex-A7 cores.
Currently, the Cortex-X5 super core operates at around 3.4GHz, but the final frequency may be increased to rival other high-frequency chips. The final performance metrics are expected to be disclosed in October, indicating that the chipset will be unveiled that month.
Technological Advancements
TSMC claims that their 3nm process technology is a significant leap forward from the 5nm process technology. It is considered the industry's most advanced process technology, offering superior PPA (power, performance, and area) and transistor technology.
The Vivo X100 and X100 Pro, which were announced in October 2023, were the first devices to feature the Dimensity 9300 chipset. Therefore, it is plausible that the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro might be the first smartphones to come with the Dimensity 9400 SoC.
Competing Devices
A recent report suggested that the Oppo Find X8, featuring the Dimensity 9400, will also be unveiled in October. The X200 and the Find X8 are expected to compete with the Xiaomi 15, which is anticipated to be the first-ever Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phone, also launching in October.
Currently, there is no detailed information available about the specifications of the Vivo X200 series. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
