Vivo has recently introduced its flagship smartphones, the X200 and X200 Pro, emphasizing their advanced camera and AI features. However, after the launch, numerous users began to report an issue with excessive lens flares in the main camera of the X200 Pro. This has led to widespread discussion on social media platforms. In response, Huang Tao, the Vice President of the company, has shared his thoughts on what might be causing these problems and how they plan to address them.
Cause of the Lens Flare Issue
Huang Tao explained that the lens flare problem is linked to the device's large f/1.57 aperture. This feature enhances low-light photography but also makes the camera more vulnerable to lens flares from bright light sources that are not directly in the frame, known as off-screen glare. The effect is especially visible when light strikes the lens at certain angles, making the glare more noticeable compared to other devices on the market.
Coating Technology Impact
The situation is worsened by modifications in the camera’s coating technology. While this new coating effectively reduces typical radial or petal-like glare, it does not perform as well with blue spectrum light, which is a factor in the noticeable flares users are experiencing.
Fixes in Progress
Luckily, Vivo is actively working on a resolution. Huang Tao admitted that the issue was not fully recognized during the initial testing phase. To remedy this, Vivo is planning an Over-The-Air (OTA) software update aimed at lessening the lens flare intensity through various optimizations. Furthermore, the company is considering hardware modifications for those who still encounter significant issues, which may include additional accessories to help alleviate the problem.

Even with the lens flare challenges, the X200 Pro impresses users with its powerful camera features. It boasts a new 50MP main sensor that measures 1/1.28″, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens (3.7x) equipped with Zeiss optics, and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, all of which contribute to producing stunning images in diverse situations.
The device showcases a 6.78-inch 2K AMOLED display, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness that reaches up to 4500 nits. With the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, the X200 Pro promises enhanced performance and energy efficiency compared to its predecessors.
