CMF Watch Pro 2 Update: Google Health Sync & UI Enhancements

The CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2, released in July 2024, is getting an updated software version. The incremental update, version 1.0.0.51, is being deployed gradually and includes a mix of minor enhancements and one major feature: integration with Google Health Connect, though this is limited to Android users.

    Update Details

The changelog for this update highlights several optimizations. Incoming call notifications now feature a revised light animation, and the display of weekly temperature data has been adjusted for improved clarity. The world clock feature also gets a minor update to better show daylight saving time information.

Additionally, specific widgets on the watch now display calorie and exercise duration measurements in a more refined manner. Lastly, the update promises a general improvement in user experience, although specific details are not provided.

Key Feature: Google Health Connect Integration

The standout feature in version 1.0.0.51 is the integration with Google Health Connect. This feature, available exclusively for Android devices, enables users to sync health data collected by the Watch Pro 2 with Google’s health data platform. This integration aims to provide users with a more comprehensive view of their health data by combining information from the Watch Pro 2 with data from other fitness trackers and health applications within the Google ecosystem.

The companion CMF Watch app, available for both Android and iOS, also receives an update alongside the Watch Pro 2 firmware. The app’s homepage is now redesigned to show data from the Watch Pro 2 (and the original Watch Pro). Additionally, users can now set daily step goals directly within the app.

    CMF Watch Pro 2 Specifications

To recap, the CMF Watch Pro 2 comes with a 1.32-inch AMOLED display featuring a 60Hz refresh rate, 620 nits peak brightness, and gesture control.

The watch has an aluminum alloy body with a rotating crown, offers IP68 dust and water resistance, and has customizable bezels. Health features include a heart-rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, sleep tracker, and 120 sports modes with auto-detection. Additional features include breathing training, sedentary reminders, and hydration alerts.

The smartwatch supports Bluetooth calling, built-in GPS, and data integration across health apps. It is powered by a 305mAh battery, offering up to 11 days of usage on a single charge.

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Series: Improved Battery Life Solution Found

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Series: Improved Battery Life Solution Found

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch 7 series along with its latest foldable smartphones and TWS earbuds during the most recent Unpacked event held on July 10. Just a few days after these products became widely available, the watches are now receiving their first software update. This update reportedly addresses several issues that were present from the start. However, the company has postponed the One UI 7 update, citing that they are currently ‘too busy’ with other updates.

    Battery Life Concerns

Early adopters of the Galaxy Watch 7 series have reported unexpected battery drain issues and overall poor battery performance on both wearables.

The Galaxy Watch 7 is equipped with a 300mAh battery, which Samsung claims should last between 30 hours (with Always On Display enabled) to 40 hours (with AOD disabled). On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch Ultra features a larger 590mAh battery, which is supposed to last between 60 hours (AOD on) to 80 hours (AOD off).

    Real-Life Usage vs. Advertised Specs

In real-world usage, the watches provide only about 12 hours of battery life, significantly less than what Samsung advertises. Fortunately, the company has acknowledged the issue and rolled out an update to address it.

The changelog does not specifically mention the battery life issue; it only indicates improvements in performance, bug fixes, and new or enhanced features. This update is based on One UI version 6.0 Watch. The firmware versions for the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra are L310XXU1AXG2 (~173MB) and L705FXXU1AXFB (330.59MB), respectively.

Both watches sport 1.5-inch AMOLED displays with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels. The Watch Ultra is heavier at 60.5g compared to the 33.8g of the Watch 7 and features a square design. Both devices are powered by the new Exynos W1000 chip, which Samsung claims is more capable and energy-efficient than its predecessor.

  • Xiaomi 14 Series First to Receive HyperOS 2 Update

Xiaomi 14 Series First to Receive HyperOS 2 Update

A leaked screenshot reveals Xiaomi 14 running on HyperOS 2.0.240703. Xiaomi initially introduced this device with HyperOS last year, and it is now undergoing tests with the HyperOS 2 operating system, suggesting an imminent release.

    Internal Testing in August

HyperOS 2 is anticipated to be another successful custom skin from Xiaomi, built on Android. Since its debut, HyperOS has garnered considerable interest among Android users. According to industry insiders, HyperOS 2.0 will bring significant enhancements over its predecessor, addressing notable issues and introducing a range of exciting new features.

The Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi's latest flagship, is expected to be the first to receive the HyperOS 2 update. Reports indicate that internal testing will commence in August.

    Upcoming Releases

The Xiaomi 15 series, slated for a late October release, will come pre-installed with HyperOS 2. The global version of HyperOS 2 is anticipated to launch in late December or early next year. Besides the Xiaomi 14 series, the Redmi K80 series, and Poco F6 series are also among the first devices to receive this update.

Although Xiaomi has yet to disclose specific improvements, the update is likely to enhance system functions, smoothen operations, and improve the overall user experience. Expectations are high for better system animations and the inclusion of some AI features.

For those unfamiliar with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, it has a notably lighter footprint, occupying only 9.14 GB compared to the 12.53 GB required by a recent MIUI version. HyperOS also provides a simpler user interface, emphasizing a minimalist experience with its custom skin.

This is not the final list by any means. Smartphone brands have yet to release the list of Android 15-supported devices. So, if your device isn’t on the list, don’t get disappointed. I would advise waiting until the official list comes out.

Google has already released several Android 15 betas, and a couple more are expected to be released in the coming weeks before it’s refined for the final release. We don’t have an official release date yet. However, it’s expected to be released in October.

Did your device make the cut? And what are your expectations from Android 15? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 Update Fixes Heating Issue

OnePlus has released an update for its Nord CE 4 smartphone to address heating issues experienced by some users. The update, version IN: CPH2613_14.0.1.429(EX01), also enhances camera stability and overall system performance.

    Limited Release Initially

At present, the update is being distributed to a limited number of users, with a broader rollout anticipated soon. Users in India who receive the update can report bugs by dialing *#800# and selecting 'Submit Bugs.'

    Global Availability Expected

While OnePlus has not confirmed plans to release this update in other regions, it is likely to become available worldwide shortly. This update follows the recent OxygenOS 14.0.1.427 update, which introduced an AI eraser tool.

    OnePlus Nord CE 4 Specs

The Nord CE 4 5G features a 6.7-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. It is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and offers up to 256 GB of storage. The device is equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging. Running Android 14 and OxygenOS 14, it is set to receive at least two major software updates and three years of security updates.

The smartphone includes a camera system with a 50-megapixel main sensor featuring Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Additional features include dual stereo speakers, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and Aquatouch technology.

  • Galaxy A54: OneUI 6.1 Update Brings Video Call Effects

Galaxy A54: OneUI 6.1 Update Brings Video Call Effects

Samsung has just released the OneUI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S21 series in India, adding a Galaxy AI feature to the phones. Now, the company is extending the latest OneUI version to the more budget-friendly Galaxy A54 in the country. It's worth noting that the device has already received this update in several other regions, including Europe, the US, and Samsung's home country.

    Credit: @tarunvats33
The software package is 2118MB in size and comes with firmware version A546EXXU7CXDD. If you haven't received a notification about the new update yet, you might need to wait a few days for it to reach your device. In the meantime, you can manually check for the update by going to Software Update within the Settings menu.

New features for the Galaxy A54 with OneUI 6.1

The Galaxy A54 gains several new features with the OneUI 6.1 update. The built-in gallery app now provides more options for editing images and videos. Additionally, you can now add a portrait effect to suitable wallpapers, use video call effects, change microphone modes, utilize new lock screen widgets, and enjoy more customization options along with enhanced battery protection features. However, this update does not include any significant AI features.

    Lack of Galaxy AI features

OneUI 6.1 does not bring any Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy A54. This is not unexpected, as the Exynos 1380 chip lacks the raw CPU power and neural cores necessary to run on-device models. Moreover, it does not offer cloud-based features either, including popular options like Google's Circle to Search. Nonetheless, Samsung never promised to provide any Galaxy AI features for this phone.

  • Nokia Phones Eligible for Android 15 Update

Nokia Phones Eligible for Android 15 Update

Nokia is known for providing a near-stock Android experience on its smartphones, allowing for minimal changes when Google releases a new Android OS version. This should ideally enable Nokia devices to receive software updates more quickly than other brands. However, in recent years, this hasn't been the case.

Nokia's recent performance in software rollouts hasn't been impressive, but there's always hope for better updates each year. If you possess a Nokia smartphone, you're likely curious if it will receive the Android 15 update, given the buzz around the new OS.

Likely Candidates for Android 15 Update

Here are the Nokia phones most likely to receive the Android 15 update:

    • Nokia XR21
    • Nokia X30
    • Nokia G60
    • Nokia G42

This list is not final and is based on Nokia's software update policy. We will update it when official information becomes available.

Typically, HMD Global, Nokia's owner, offers two major OS updates and two to three years of security updates for its smartphones. Unfortunately, this policy doesn't extend to budget and entry-level phones, which rarely receive Android OS updates.

    Android 15 Rollout Timeline

Android 15 is currently in development, with several developer previews and beta builds available for testers. According to Google's official timeline, the beta phase will last until June 2024, followed by a platform stability phase for final tweaks and bug fixes.

While there's no official release date for Android 15 yet, it is expected to launch around the same time as last year, likely in October. It will probably be unveiled alongside the Pixel 9 series, which will be the first to run the new OS out-of-the-box.

However, based on past performance, it's unlikely that HMD Global will start rolling out the new OS in October. For instance, Android 14 was released in October last year, but HMD Global only began its rollout in January this year.

    Exciting Features in Android 15

Android 15 promises a host of exciting features, making it a more substantial upgrade than Android 13 and Android 14. Here are some major features discovered so far:

    • Circle to Search: This feature allows you to search anything on your screen by drawing a circle around it. Initially available on the Galaxy S24 series, it was later adopted by the Pixel 8 series and may now be supported by all Android 15 devices.
    • Satellite Connectivity Support: Enables text messaging even without cell towers, as long as you have access to the open sky. This feature supports SMS apps and preinstalled RCS apps, not just for emergencies.
    • On-Device AI Capabilities: Announced during Google I/O 2024, these capabilities will be part of Android 15, though specific uses are yet to be revealed.
    • Find My Phone Network: With this, all Android 15 phones can help locate lost devices by pinging each other via Bluetooth. The nearby devices contribute to a network that helps find the lost device by uploading encrypted location details to Google’s servers.
    • Gemini Assistant: Android 15 will replace Google Assistant with Gemini as the default assistant on all devices running the new OS.
    • App Archiving: This feature allows you to uninstall apps while retaining user data, making it easier to pick up where you left off upon reinstallation. Unlike the current app archiving feature available through the Play Store, Android 15 will extend this capability to apps installed outside the Play Store.
    • Notification Cooldown: Designed to prevent notification overload, this feature reduces the volume of successive notifications from the same app.
    • Partial Screen Sharing: Users can share and record a single app instead of the entire screen, a feature already available on Pixel devices and now extended to all Android 15 devices.
    • High-Quality Webcam: Android 15 introduces a high-quality webcam mode that significantly enhances video quality by disabling power optimizations, although it results in increased battery drain.

Android 15 testing is currently underway, with numerous developer previews and beta versions released for testing purposes. Google is continuously working on making changes and addressing known issues until the Android 15 stable release is finalized. Motorola users are eager to know if their devices will receive the Android 15 update.

    Exciting Android 15 Features

The upcoming Android 15 update is anticipated to be a significant upgrade compared to Android 13 and 14. Early builds have showcased various exciting features of the OS. While specifics will be delved into later, let’s first explore which Motorola devices are expected to be eligible for the Android 15 upgrade.

    Eligible Motorola Devices

    • Edge series: Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, Motorola Edge 40 Pro, Motorola Edge 40 Neo, Motorola Edge 40, Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, Motorola Edge+ (2023), Motorola Edge (2023)
    • Moto G series: Motorola Moto G84, Motorola Moto G73, Motorola Moto G64, Motorola Moto G54, Motorola Moto G Power (2024), Motorola Moto G (2024)
    • Razr series: Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, Motorola Razr 40
    • Lenovo phones: Motorola Lenovo ThinkPhone

Motorola has not yet released an official list of devices slated for the Android 15 upgrade. Typically, the brand offers three major Android updates for select mid-range and flagship devices, while entry-level phones usually receive only one significant OS update. The list provided above includes Motorola devices expected to receive the Android 15 update, subject to updates based on the latest Android 14 information.

    Anticipated Rollout Timeline

Google is expected to wrap up the Android 15 beta phase by June 2024, during which new features are tested and existing issues are addressed. Following this phase, the OS enters the platform stability phase for further refinements and bug fixes in preparation for the final release.

In 2023, Google released Android 14 in October alongside the Pixel 8 series, leading many to anticipate a similar timeline for Android 15. The new OS release may coincide with the introduction of Google’s next flagship smartphone series, Pixel 9, potentially being the first devices to feature Android 15 out of the box.

While Motorola has faced challenges with timely software updates in the past, the brand initiated the stable Android 14 rollout earlier this year. However, compared to competitors like Samsung and OnePlus, Motorola’s update process has been relatively slower. It is hoped that Motorola will improve its update pace with Android 15, although it is unlikely that the stable rollout will commence immediately after the Android 15 release, possibly not until December.
