AYN Thor and Odin: New Pricing Announced for March 2024

    Key Takeaways

    1. AYN has moved the price increase for the Thor and Odin 3 from April to March 8, 2026, due to supplier cost hikes.
    2. The increase is driven by rising DRAM and storage component prices, along with exchange rate fluctuations.
    3. The Thor Lite will not see a price increase, while the Base model will increase by $10, and the Pro and Max versions by $30 and $40, respectively.
    4. The Odin 3’s Base model will have a $10 increase, with Pro and Max models rising by $40 each.
    5. Existing orders will be honored at the original price, and new pre-orders will start on March 1, 2026.

Just a few days after revealing plans to hike the price of its dual-screen handheld, Thor, in April, AYN has now changed its mind and will implement the increase in March instead. The new pricing details for both the Thor and the Odin 3 were also shared in this announcement.

    Reason for the Price Change

AYN used its Discord channel to share the reason for this change of plans. The company revealed that the supplier of the DRAM and storage components for the Thor and Odin 3 has informed them that the price hike for these parts will take effect this February. Moreover, the issue with memory pricing is anticipated to last until the next year.

Furthermore, AYN mentioned that they face challenges with fluctuations in exchange rates and increased costs for materials. The mix of these issues has forced AYN to move the price increase date forward. Instead of the initially planned April 2026, the new prices for the AYN Thor and AYN Odin 3 will now be effective on March 8, 2026.

    Pricing Details

Here are the launch prices, current prices, and the upcoming new prices that will be applied on March 8.

As noted, AYN is not increasing the price of the Thor Lite, which will stay at its launch price of $249. However, the Base model will see a $10 increase, and the Pro and Max versions will go up by $30 and $40, respectively.

In contrast, the Odin 3 is experiencing its very first price hike. The base model will see a $10 increase, while the Pro and Max models will both increase by $40. AYN also mentioned that the Ultra model, equipped with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, is currently ”out of stock”. It’s unclear whether this means it won’t be produced anymore.

    Pre-Order Information

All existing orders will be processed at the original price. If you haven’t placed your order yet, the next round of pre-orders will start tomorrow, March 1.

  • YouTubers Test Ayn Odin 3 for Nintendo Switch and PC Gaming

YouTubers Test Ayn Odin 3 for Nintendo Switch and PC Gaming

    Key Takeaways

    1. AYN Technologies has started shipping the Odin 3 gaming handheld, which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
    2. Early performance tests show significant improvements in benchmarks for the Odin 3 compared to its predecessor, the Odin 2.
    3. Despite higher benchmark scores, the Odin 3 ranks lower than some other Snapdragon 8 Elite devices in performance comparisons.
    4. The Odin 3 can emulate games up to Gamecube and PlayStation 2, but lacks custom drivers for Switch and Wii U, limiting its emulation capabilities.
    5. While the Odin 3 excels in PC emulation, it may struggle with running modern AAA games at lower resolutions.

AYN Technologies has begun sending out its Odin 3 after introducing the gaming handheld on Indiegogo in September. Shortly after, it became available for direct purchase from AYN Technologies. The Odin 3 stands out as one of the few gaming handhelds powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, joining the Konkr Pocket Fit Elite in the market.

    Performance Comparisons

While Ayaneo won’t start shipping pre-orders for the Pocket Fit Elite until December, some YouTubers have already started testing the Odin 3 to see how it stacks up against its well-known predecessor, which is currently priced at $399 on Amazon. Channels like Joey’s Retro Handhelds and Retro Game Corps have shared videos showcasing their findings, which we’ve included below. Early insights into the performance differences between the Odin 2 and Odin 3 reveal some interesting trends.

    Benchmark Results

In synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark and Geekbench, the Odin 3 shows significant improvements over the Odin 2, achieving almost double the score in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme and more than twice the score in Geekbench 6.5 Vulkan. The CPU benchmark results show a smaller gap, but the Odin 3 still holds an advantage. However, when comparing its synthetic performance with other Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered devices we’ve tested, the Odin 3 ranks at the lower end in most cases, except for Geekbench 6.5 Vulkan.

    Emulation Performance

Sadly, the considerable performance boost from the Odin 2 to the Odin 3 doesn’t directly lead to better emulation performance. On one side, the Odin 3 is capable of emulating games up to Gamecube and PlayStation 2 on a 4K external monitor with extra capacity. On the flip side, the absence of custom Turnip drivers restricts its ability to emulate Switch and Wii U games, leading to some titles being unplayable. Thus, for these specific systems, the Odin 2 still provides a better emulation experience. When it comes to PC emulation, the Odin 3 has the upper hand, but it may still struggle to run modern AAA games even at 720p. Check out the videos above and below for further insights.

AYN Technologies has started selling its new gaming handheld directly on its website instead of using a crowdfunding platform. Interestingly, the AYN Thor has been available for sale on AYN Technologies’ website since it was first introduced.

    New Features of Odin 3

The Odin 3 is an update over the Odin 2, but it does not replace the smaller Odin 2 Mini or the larger Odin 2 Portal, which is currently priced at $359 on Amazon. However, the Odin 3 is set to be more powerful than any of the Odin 2 series handhelds, as it features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in all its versions. For a detailed overview of the hardware in AYN’s latest handheld, check out our original article on the Odin 3 launch.

    Specifications and Pricing

To keep it simple, we’ve added an image below that highlights the main specifications of the device. The AYN Odin 3 starts at $329 when bought from AYN Technologies’ official website. This is a $30 increase from its initial Indiegogo launch price. This particular version comes with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Sadly, AYN Technologies reserves UFS 4.0 flash storage for its Pro, Max, and Ultra versions, which are priced at $399, $449, and $519, respectively. AYN has recently disclosed some color choices for their new Odin 3 handheld, following their earlier announcements about its design and processor specifics. The handheld will come in four vibrant colors, with one color determined by the official AYN community.

    Color Variants of Odin 3

So far, AYN has shown off the handheld in a sleek Black color. Besides this, it will also be offered in a crisp White that has matching buttons. The third option, named Rainbow, features an off-white shade combined with gray thumbsticks and D-pad, along with colorful ABXY buttons in red, yellow, green, and blue.

    Community Choice for Fourth Color

For the fourth color, AYN is letting the community decide through a poll on their official forums (Discord and QQ). The options are either Clear Blue or Clear Purple, both showcasing a see-through design. Currently, 51% of the voters on Discord have selected Clear Purple, while 49% prefer Clear Blue. The voting will last for 24 hours, and the final color decision will be announced tomorrow, September 3.

    Specifications Recap

To summarize, the Odin 3 features a 6-inch 120Hz FHD AMOLED display, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a robust 8,000mAh battery. This Android-based handheld is equipped with asymmetrical thumbsticks that have RGB lighting, dual back buttons, front-facing speakers, an audio jack, a MicroSD card slot, and a USB-C port. Its dimensions are reported as 224.8 x 87.5 x 16.6 mm, and it weighs approximately 390 grams.

There’s currently no pricing information available, but it’s yet to be revealed if it will be more affordable than the Konkr Pocket Fit Elite, which is expected to start below $399 and is rumored to run on the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Unlike the Konkr Fit Elite, which boasts a 144Hz 1080p LCD, the Odin 3’s 120Hz 1080p OLED display might drive the price higher.

  • AYN Unveils First Look at Odin 3 with Familiar Design

AYN Unveils First Look at Odin 3 with Familiar Design

    Key Takeaways

    1. The Odin 3 features a new design inspired by the Odin 2 Portal, with a completely flat display compared to the previous model’s curved edges.
    2. It will have asymmetrical joysticks and a D-pad similar to the Odin 2 Portal, but the ABXY button layout will follow a Nintendo Switch style.
    3. The handheld will include textured thumbsticks with RGB ring lights, a microSD card slot, an audio jack, and a USB-C port.
    4. The speaker grilles on the Odin 3 are larger with more openings, and the device has a matte finish to reduce fingerprints.
    5. Technical specifications for the Odin 3 have not yet been announced, but more details are expected to be revealed gradually.

A few weeks after announcing its plans for a new version of the Odin 2, AYN Technologies has shared the first glimpse of the upcoming handheld device, now known as the Odin 3. The image indicates that the Odin 3 will feature a design different from its predecessor, taking inspiration from the Odin 2 Portal, but with some modifications.

    Display and Design Changes

The Odin 3 seems to come with a bigger screen than the previous model, though it’s unclear if it matches the display size of the Odin 2 Portal. In contrast to the Odin 2 Portal, which has a screen that curves at the edges near the buttons and is sold on Amazon for $539.95, the Odin 3 offers a completely flat display.

    Controller Layout and Features

The visual of the Odin 3 suggests that it will include asymmetrical joysticks and the same D-pad design found on the Odin 2 Portal, with similar placements for the additional buttons. However, unlike the Xbox layout for the ABXY buttons seen in its predecessor, AYN has opted for a Nintendo Switch layout, similar to what was used with the AYN Thor. Even though some users may not favor this choice, AYN is likely to offer ABXY buttons with an Xbox configuration as a separate add-on.

    Additional Specifications and Expectations

The illustration of the Odin 3 reveals that the handheld’s thumbsticks will have textured surfaces along with RGB ring lights. On the bottom, there will be a microSD card slot, an audio jack, and a USB-C port. The speaker grilles are also noticeably larger, featuring more openings. Additionally, the Odin 3 seems to have a matte finish, which is a positive change from the glossy front of the Odin 2 Portal that attracted fingerprints easily.

Currently, AYN has not disclosed the technical specifications for the Odin 3, but it is anticipated that further information will be revealed soon. We can expect the details to be released gradually, similar to how the company shared information about the dual-screen AYN Thor.
