The sequel to the well-loved game from Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima, named Ghost of Yotei, has reached a major milestone by going gold. This means that the game has finished its main development phase and is now ready for its upcoming release.
On social media, Sucker Punch shared this exciting news, stating that the master copy of the game has been sent to Sony Interactive Entertainment for production and distribution. This achievement comes just a month before the game is set to be released on October 2, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
Excitement in the Air
Sucker Punch Productions expressed their enthusiasm on X, saying, “We’re so excited to finally reach this milestone and can’t wait for everyone to experience the beauty of Ezo on October 2nd.” To mark the occasion of the game going gold, they also shared a 74-second clip showcasing new gameplay of Atsu, who brings firearms into a sword duel, displaying a style many are calling “gun fu” against foes in a camp.
With the game now officially gold, the chances of delays appear to be eliminated. However, it is still possible to see post-launch updates and day-one patches, which have become common in the industry.
The Story and Setting
Set 300 years after the original Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei follows Atsu, a solitary mercenary navigating the landscapes of rural Japan during the 1600s, specifically around Mount Yotei in the Ezo region, now known as Hokkaido.
Ghost of Yotei will be available in several editions, both physical and digital. The Standard Edition will be priced at $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition, costing $79.99, will include extras like Snake Armor, a special Sword Kit, early access to Traveler’s Maps, a unique Charm, Digital Deluxe Armor Dye, and a matching Horse and Saddle.
Special Collector’s Edition
For collectors, there is a $249.99 bundle that includes a ghost mask, sash, tsuba, a papercraft ginkgo tree, art cards, and a Zeni Haiki coin game with a pouch, plus additional digital content that can be redeemed using a voucher code.
Although Ghost of Yotei will be a PlayStation exclusive at launch, there’s no updates yet on a potential PC release. The original Ghost of Tsushima came out on PS4 in July 2020, made its way to PS5 in August 2021, and was finally available on PC by May 2024.
Recently, PlayStation has been moving towards making more games available on other platforms after an initial exclusive period, leading to speculation that Ghost of Yotei may arrive on PC by late 2026.
