The Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite, X2 Elite Extreme, and X2 Plus SoCs are coming, bringing promises of huge performance boosts, better efficiency, and enhanced software support. Qualcomm has shared impressive performance numbers, which we’ve reported on thoroughly, but real-world tests have been limited. However, that has changed with the recent performance review of the Snapdragon X2 Elite by Hardware Canucks.

Performance Insights

It is important to note that the Snapdragon X2 Elite was tested in a pre-production Asus Zenbook A14, utilizing non-final software. Therefore, its performance might improve as updates are released closer to the product’s launch.

Looking at the multi-core Cinebench 2024 results, the Snapdragon X2 Elite shows a remarkable 49% advantage over the Snapdragon X Elite. Additionally, its performance stands out against the Core Ultra X9 388H Panther Lake (47%) and the Apple M5 (24%). The AMD Strix Point Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is no match for Snapdragon X2 Elite, which boasts a 55% performance increase.

Single-Core Performance

In terms of single-core performance, the Snapdragon X2 Elite also presents solid figures, showing a 35% improvement compared to the Snapdragon X Elite. Its lead over Intel’s Panther Lake and Lunar Lake Core Ultra 9 288V is smaller, at 12.3% and 14%, respectively. The Apple M5, on the other hand, appears to be in a league of its own, as the Snapdragon X2 Elite is 35% slower on that front.

While Qualcomm’s previous Snapdragon X Elite had decent CPU performance, it fell short in gaming. However, Qualcomm appears to have made notable progress, as the Snapdragon X2 Elite can now handle games like Cyberpunk 2077 at decent frame rates.

Gaming Performance

According to Hardware Canucks, the Snapdragon X2 Elite runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 40 FPS at 1200p with medium settings and FSR 3 Performance. In contrast, the Snapdragon X Elite only achieves 22 FPS, while the Intel Panther Lake’s Arc B390 reaches 46 FPS.

Interestingly, despite the average of 40 FPS, the 1% Lows for the Snapdragon X2 Elite are only 18 FPS. The Core Ultra X9 388H performs better, with 1% Lows at 34 FPS. This indicates that the Qualcomm chip might be facing software issues, suggesting that game compatibility isn’t quite where it should be.

The same trend is observed in Counter-Strike 2, where the Snapdragon X2 Elite averages over 113 FPS, but the 1% Lows drop to 63 FPS. In comparison, the Core Ultra X9 388H averages 188.7 FPS with 1% Lows of 119.8 FPS, highlighting a significant performance gap.
