Samsung’s First Tri-Fold Smartphone Launches Soon to Compete with Huawei

Samsung is said to be revealing its first ‘tri-fold’ foldable smartphone sooner than many thought. Originally, the company was expected to launch its competitor to the Huawei Mate XT in early 2026. However, Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants mentioned earlier this month that panel shipments are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Release Schedule Update

According to The Elec, the timeline for the unnamed tri-fold from Samsung has been accelerated to align with its other foldable devices. Following the launches of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 (currently priced at $1,269.99 – renewed on Amazon), the next foldable event from Samsung is likely to take place in July. This event is expected to happen within six months after the Galaxy S25 series starts shipping.

Upcoming Devices

This summer event is also anticipated to highlight the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, along with a more affordable option called the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Samsung’s first tri-fold is projected to have a limited production run of about 200,000 units, which is only about one-tenth of the planned amount for the Galaxy Z Fold7. It is believed that Samsung’s first tri-fold will follow the design of the Flex G, which was presented by its subsidiary, Samsung Display, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas this month.
