Yet, 2026 might bring back the divide between Exynos and Snapdragon, although it’s still uncertain if the newly announced Exynos 2600 will be available outside of Galaxy S26 devices sold in South Korea.
Exynos 2600 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
For the first time, the Exynos version could actually have an edge over Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is produced by TSMC with a 3nm technology. Thanks to its 2nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) process, Samsung’s new SoC is expected to deliver a 39% boost in performance and better efficiency in comparison to the Exynos 2500. A new Heat Path Block (HPB) is designed to stop heat from building up by sitting right on top of the Exynos 2600, acting similarly to a heat sink.
Core Specifications
The Exynos 2600 is built with ten cores based on the new ARM Lumex architecture, which is also found in the Dimensity 9500. In contrast, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has eight Oryon cores. It consists of one C1 Ultra Prime core that runs at 3.8 GHz, three C1 Pro cores operating at 3.25 GHz, and six C1 Pro cores clocked at a lower 2.75 GHz. These ten cores work together with a Samsung Xclipse 960 GPU and a 32K MAC NPU, which is said to provide a 113% increase in generative AI performance over its predecessor.
AI Features and Camera Capabilities
Samsung also introduced a new AI-powered Visual Perception System (VPS) in its integrated image signal processor (ISP). This VPS can detect situations like a person blinking while taking a selfie. Another significant update is a noise-reduction feature aimed at improving low-light camera performance. Despite all these enhancements, the new ISP uses 50% less power than the previous version in the Exynos 2500. With the support for AVP codec, Samsung wants to create an alternative to Apple’s ProRes for high-quality video recording. The Exynos 2600 can also handle cameras with resolutions reaching up to 320 MP.
Gaming Performance
Samsung emphasized that mobile gamers will finally be pleased with an Exynos chip. The Xclipse 960 GPU is rumored to provide double the computing power of its earlier version, alongside a 50% increase in ray tracing capabilities. There’s also a new feature called Exynos Neural Super Sampling (ENSS), which brings AI-driven upscaling and frame generation to the table.
