Samsung Reveals Launch Date for Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra

Samsung has confirmed that its Winter Unpacked event will take place on January 22, 2025. During this event, we are expecting to see the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series. The gathering will be held in San Jose, California, and invitations were sent out starting January 6, coinciding with the CES 2025 event in Las Vegas.

What to Expect from the Event

Beyond launching new smartphones, Samsung is putting a strong focus on artificial intelligence, claiming it will “transform the way Galaxy users engage with the world.” If the AI features introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are any indication, the upcoming Galaxy S devices could bring even more advanced tools and smarter experiences for users.

Viewing Details

The first Unpacked event of 2025 will be available to watch live on January 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT. You can catch the stream through the Samsung Newsroom, Samsung.com, or on the company’s YouTube channel.

Galaxy S25 Series Design

Samsung seems to be maintaining its classic design style for the S25 series, avoiding major visual changes. Leaked images suggest that while the phones will look similar, they will have improvements that enhance the feel in hand. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to have rounded corners instead of the sharper edges seen in the S24 Ultra. Although the sharp edges provided a sleek appearance, they could be uncomfortable during long use, so the S25 Ultra’s softer edges should enhance grip and handling.

Premium Materials and Features

The Ultra model is also likely to continue using high-end materials, featuring a titanium back, while the standard S25 and S25+ may use aluminum frames. As with past Ultra models, the S Pen will likely be included, tucked neatly at the bottom of the device.

Display Enhancements

Display improvements are anticipated for the S25 series, especially for the Ultra version. According to leaks from Ice Universe, the S25 Ultra will have a 6.86-inch display, slightly larger than its predecessor’s 6.8 inches. Even with this bigger screen, the overall width will narrow a bit to 77.6mm from the S24 Ultra’s 79mm. Samsung is reportedly reducing the bezels to just 2.3mm, achieving a better screen-to-body ratio for an enhanced viewing experience.

The Ultra’s display is also said to feature second-generation Corning Gorilla Armor Glass, which will offer better durability and anti-reflective capabilities. The main display specifications—a 120Hz LTPO panel and 1440p resolution—are expected to remain the same.

Processor and Battery Details

A significant change may occur internally. All S25 models, including the base and Plus versions, are rumored to come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor globally, skipping Samsung’s traditional split between Snapdragon and Exynos chips. Reports suggest that production challenges with the Exynos 2500 are leading Samsung to opt for Snapdragon across the range.

The S25 will likely retain a 4000mAh battery, while the S25+ could have a 4900mAh capacity, and the S25 Ultra is expected to keep its 5000mAh battery. Charging speeds are anticipated to remain at 25W for the S25 and 45W for the S25+ and Ultra. Notably, the S25 series is rumored to introduce Qi2 wireless charging.

Speculations on Additional Models

While the main focus is on the three primary models, there’s speculation that Samsung might reveal a fourth device during the Unpacked event. Instead of an S25 FE, it could be a Galaxy S25 Slim—a lighter and thinner phone aimed at competing with Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air. Even the teaser for the Unpacked event hints at four distinct devices, lending credence to this idea.
