Samsung Launches AI Hybrid Cooling Technology for Refrigerators

Samsung has revealed its groundbreaking refrigerator that features “AI hybrid cooling technology,” which will make its first appearance at the CES 2025 Consumer Electronics Show in January. This state-of-the-art appliance is designed to offer more efficient and accurate cooling compared to regular refrigerators, thanks to the smart use of AI algorithms and advanced thermal systems.

Advanced Cooling System

The new Samsung refrigerator utilizes a hybrid cooling setup that merges a standard compressor with a semiconductor-based Peltier module. This Peltier module works in tandem with the compressor to meet high cooling needs. For instance, when hot dishes are placed inside, or when large amounts of food are loaded, or even when the internal temperature rises, the Peltier module kicks in to enable quick temperature drops.

Under normal conditions, the appliance relies on its AI-driven inverter compressor. This compressor is engineered to use less power and adapt its speed dynamically through AI algorithms, ensuring prolonged operation while lowering energy usage when compared to Samsung's older F3 compressors.

Enhanced Features for Food Preservation

Additionally, the Peltier module can function as a heating system, allowing for accurate temperature management. A standout feature, Hybrid Precise Cooling, reduces temperature swings during automatic defrost cycles. This technology significantly improves food preservation, extending the freshness of items such as pork and salmon by up to 40% and 20%, respectively.

Samsung’s prototype showcased at CES boasts a capacity of 900 liters, with the Peltier module contributing an extra 25 liters of usable space. This added room allows for deeper 60mm shelves, which expands the storage area by 13.8%. The design also provides space for an extra 1/9 of 355ml beverage cans compared to regular refrigerators, making it more convenient for users.

Energy Efficiency and Future Release

Moreover, the forthcoming refrigerator will adhere to top energy efficiency standards, obtaining the coveted Energy Star certification. Samsung is set to launch the mass-produced version, RM80F23VM***, in 2025.
