Samsung already commands a significant 71% share of the OLED monitor market, but it aims to boost its shipments by 50% this year, targeting sales of over 2 million units using its QD-OLED panel technology.
Strong Market Performance
The company points to the solid success of its new 27-inch 4K OLED monitor and anticipates even greater demand when a QHD (2560×1440 pixels) model with a staggering 500 Hz refresh rate becomes available next quarter. Samsung describes the 27-inch QHD OLED monitor as a “game changer,” as it will offer the highest refresh rate yet on a panel utilizing light-emissive diodes.
Price Reductions to Boost Sales
Samsung is so confident in the advantages of its QD-OLED monitor technology that it plans to support the transition from the common LCD panel by reducing the prices of its OLED monitors. Brad Jung, Vice President and Head of the Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display, stated:
“The technological shift from LCD to OLED in the monitor market is expected to accelerate further, driven by the differentiated image quality and technological superiority demonstrated by QD-OLED. We will introduce various innovations and products to meet the expectations of our customers as quickly as possible.”
Affordable Options for Gamers
To cater to gamers, Samsung will be rolling out mid-range and even budget-friendly OLED monitors, although it has yet to detail which features from its current premium OLED gaming monitors might be downgraded to reach a more affordable price.
For example, the 27-inch Samsung Odyssey QD-OLED G6 gaming monitor, which boasts a 360 Hz refresh rate, is currently available for $699 on Amazon, after a discount of 22%.
However, a popular 27-inch LCD gaming monitor like the Acer XV272U is priced at only a third of that, making it curious to see just how low Samsung can price its OLED gaming monitors following its announced cuts in 2025.
Future Plans and Market Strategy
The only indication Samsung has provided is in its statement that “the company plans to enter the mid-to-low price range in addition to its existing high-end offerings” regarding its “gaming lineup” of monitors with high refresh rates.
“Samsung Display plans to strategically expand its product lineup in both consumer and business sectors to meet high market demand and enhance its market influence,” the display maker continues.
For an OLED gaming monitor to gain widespread popularity and achieve high sales volumes, it will need to fit into the $300-$400 price range. Thus, it remains to be seen what specifications Samsung might sacrifice to hit that highly sought-after price point.
