The flagship smartphones from China have been leading the way in charging speed, with many recent models boasting nearly 100W fast charging capabilities. In contrast, Samsung has been using 45W wired charging for a considerable time, which is likely to remain the same for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.
Potential Upgrades for Galaxy S26
There is, however, a chance for the Galaxy S26 series to bring some much-needed improvements. A new report suggests that Samsung’s flagship devices next year might incorporate Silicon-Carbon (SiC) batteries instead of the usual lithium ones. This switch could allow for larger capacities without increasing the overall size of the batteries.
Competition in Battery Technology
It’s worth mentioning that the Galaxy S26 series won’t be the pioneer in using these advanced batteries; the Honor Magic 7 series and the Xiaomi 15 lineup already feature SiC batteries. Besides providing more capacity, these new batteries could also enable quicker charging speeds in the Galaxy S26 series.
According to a tip from @kro_roe on X, the Galaxy S26 series may arrive with wired fast charging support of 65W (145W Ugreen Nexode power bank curr. $69.99 on Amazon). While this isn’t a huge leap from what the S25 series is expected to offer, it would help the 2026 Samsung flagship models to better compete against their Chinese counterparts.
Innovations in Wireless Charging
Additionally, Samsung is rumored to be adding a new wireless charging chip called the S2MIW06. This chip is expected to support 50W wireless fast charging, compared to the anticipated 25W wireless charging for the Galaxy S25 series. Nonetheless, by the time the 2026 Samsung flagship smartphones are released, Chinese smartphone brands may push the envelope even further in terms of charging speed.
By 2026, we might see 100W+ wireless charging and nearly 150W wired charging becoming standard in high-end Chinese flagship devices. It would be exciting to witness Samsung rolling out faster charging capabilities in its Galaxy S26 series.
