Roughly a week ago, Retroid put out a teaser video for the Pocket Flip 2. The video gave some insight into what the new device would be like and how it will differ from the original Pocket Flip. However, Retroid didn’t confirm any hardware details at that time.

Hardware Revealed

Now, the company has disclosed what hardware will be inside the Pocket Flip 2 and has also shared its color options. Initially, Retroid showed the Pocket Flip 2 in two colors, confirming that it will be available in Black and ‘GC’ for GameCube. The images below show that there will also be a 16Bit US and Ice Blue option as the third and fourth color choices. Notably, the Ice Blue option will be the only one with a see-through finish.

Performance Specs

The Pocket Flip 2 is set to come with options for either a Dimensity 1100 or a Snapdragon 865 chipset. This means the Pocket Flip 2 might not match the power of well-known Android gaming handhelds like the Ayn Odin2 (currently priced at $449 on Amazon). Although the Snapdragon 865 performs well in the Pocket 5, it will be interesting to see how the Dimensity 1100 variant stacks up, considering our benchmarks show a 22% performance difference between these two chipsets.

Display and Features

Both versions of the device will include Hall effect and RGB backlit joysticks, in addition to a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p and peak brightness of 500 nits. All models will come pre-installed with Android 13, 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. A 5,000 mAh battery will also be part of the device’s compact design, which measures 140 x 89 x 24 mm and weighs 300 g.

At this point, Retroid has not shared any information about pricing or pre-order dates. However, the performance difference between the Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865 hints that the Pocket Flip 2 might be cheaper when using the Dimensity 1100 chip instead.
