Otoy has teamed up with William Shatner to produce a fresh short film and an app for the Apple Vision Pro, celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Star Trek: Generations." In this project, Shatner reprises his role as Captain Kirk, who meets his end in this film, signifying the conclusion of a lengthy tenure in the series. The newly created short film, titled "765874: Unification," occurs immediately after Kirk's demise and delves into his experiences in the afterlife.
Innovative Technology Behind the Film
The short film was crafted by Otoy utilizing its LightStage scanning system to generate CG representations of Kirk and other characters. This technology, which has won an Academy Award, was previously employed in "Star Wars: Rogue One" to capture intricate facial data. For the character of Kirk, Shatner's likeness was digitally transferred onto actor Sam Witwer's portrayal through the company's advanced digital prosthetic technology.
The stunning computer graphics were produced using Otoy's rapid OctaneRender engine, which takes advantage of Nvidia RTX GPU support for efficient raytracing acceleration within a distributed cloud rendering network known as Render Network.
Immersive Experience with Apple Vision Pro
The Apple Vision Pro app offers a captivating experience, allowing users to explore interactive sets and props from "Generations," as well as featuring a new twenty-minute film where William Shatner shares his journey with the Star Trek series.
The short film "Unification" follows two earlier works, "Memory Wall" and "Regeneration." These three films are presented in order below. Fans eager to relive Captain Kirk's adventures can purchase the Star Trek 4K Blu-Ray movie collections (the first six films here and the next four here on Amazon) or simply grab "Generations" (available here on Amazon).
