At the recent launch for its newest flagship smartphones, Oppo unveiled the improvements made in ColorOS 15, claiming it offers a new level of smoothness and performance. The company didn't hesitate to draw comparisons, making a cheeky remark about Samsung's One UI during the event.
Smoothness of ColorOS 15
Oppo presented their innovative “Luminous Rendering Engine” during the event, which greatly boosts the responsiveness of the user interface. This engine claims to provide an 18% increase in touch response speed and a 40% improvement in stability, making multitasking effortless even when under heavy loads.
While demonstrating this feature live, Oppo showcased how ColorOS 15 kept its fluidity while swiftly opening, closing, and switching between applications, contrasting it with a rival interface that seemed to struggle. Although not named explicitly, Samsung‘s One UI was clearly the target of this demonstration.
Visual Enhancements
The redesigned ColorOS 15 also comes with a fresh visual identity, featuring new icons and widgets that use natural color tones for a revitalized look. The introduction of Flux Themes allows for customizable layouts that sync the always-on display, lock screen, and home screen into a cohesive design. Oppo stressed its dedication to providing a more engaging experience with each interaction.
Interestingly, Oppo isn't the first to make fun of a competitor. It appears to have taken some cues from Samsung, who has been mocking its main rival for many years. Recently, Samsung criticized Apple for its lack of innovation, highlighting some of the Galaxy AI features.
AI Features
On the subject of AI, Oppo has integrated some new tools as well. The AI Writer function in ColorOS 15 makes replying to messages and summarizing easier, while the AI-enhanced Notes app assists users in organizing their information more effectively. These features highlight Oppo's emphasis on using AI for more intelligent and intuitive user experiences.
Hardware Overview
The Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, which are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, are the first devices to debut with ColorOS 15. These flagship devices offer excellent performance, with the Pro model supporting configurations of up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB storage. They also feature advanced cooling systems that utilize high-performance graphite and a vapor chamber to keep temperatures in check during intensive tasks like gaming.
Battery performance is another standout feature, with the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro boasting 5,630mAh and 5,910mAh batteries, respectively. Oppo also made a hardware comparison to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as seen below. Both new Oppo models support 80W wired charging and 50W magnetic wireless charging. The inclusion of magnets sets the Oppo flagships apart from other Android devices. More details about the devices can be found here.
