There are rumors that OnePlus is developing a small smartphone. Fresh information about this device has been coming out consistently. Today, the tipster Digital Chat Station shared a post on Weibo to provide more details about this intriguing OnePlus phone.
Details on the Compact Phone
According to DCS, the new compact phone from OnePlus will sport a 6.3-inch custom flat display that boasts a 1.5K resolution. The camera arrangement is said to be a horizontal small matrix, offering a simplistic design that somewhat resembles the Pixel series. The main camera is likely to be a 50-megapixel IMX906 sensor, and it appears that a periscope lens will not be included.
Processor and Features
This device will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. Currently, the engineering prototype is being tested with a short-focus fingerprint sensor, and discussions are ongoing about whether to add single-point ultrasonic fingerprint technology. The tipster also mentioned that a short-focus fingerprint sensor on a smaller phone isn’t as inconvenient as it would be on a larger phone, even considering that the device is intended for online sales. There’s optimism that this compact phone will be positioned to take on similar models from Xiaomi, but this remains unverified.
Release Timeline
DCS has previously stated that OnePlus’ compact phone is set to launch in the second quarter of 2025 in China. Moreover, it has been suggested that this device will be part of the Ace series, hinting at a possible name of OnePlus Ace 5 Mini. In the context of Ace-branded devices, OnePlus is gearing up to introduce the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro later this month in China. As per reports, these devices will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets, respectively. The Ace 5 series is expected to compete against the Redmi K80 series, the iQOO Neo 10 series, and the Realme Neo 7 within the Chinese market.
