In September 2023, China's Nio, widely recognized for its electric vehicles, introduced its first smartphone, the Nio Phone, in its domestic market. Earlier this year, the company's CEO, William Li, announced that the development of the Nio Phone 2 had reportedly begun. He also mentioned the company's intention to release a new phone annually. The Nio Phone 2 is expected to be launched soon, as it has seemingly received approval from China's 3C certification body.
Nio Phone 2 3C Certification
Prior to its release, the initial Nio Phone, identified by model number N2301, appeared on the 3C certification platform and came with a 100W charger. However, the device only supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
New Nio Phone Spotted
Recently, the 3C database listed a new Nio smartphone with model number N2401, also accompanied by a 100W charger. This could potentially be the forthcoming Nio Phone 2. Despite the 100W charger being mentioned, it remains uncertain whether the phone will support 100W charging or will continue with 66W charging like its predecessor.
Nio Phone 2 Battery
In May, a Nio battery with model number NBET02 and a rated capacity of 4,900mAh was identified at the 3C certification. This battery, likely to have a typical value of 5,000mAh, is expected to power the Nio Phone 2. To recall, the Nio Phone appeared in the 3C database in September and was officially launched in the same month. Therefore, it is plausible that the Nio Phone 2 might be unveiled later this month or in August.
Nio's move to venture into smartphones is seen as a defensive strategy against Huawei and Xiaomi's entry into the electric car market. The Nio Phone is designed to function as a comprehensive car key, enabling owners to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles using the phone, even when it's turned off. It also offers extensive vehicle control, allowing users to adjust settings such as air conditioning, seats, and music directly from their phone. Additionally, the phone integrates seamlessly with the car's infotainment system, offering features like automatic syncing of music and contacts, and smooth transitions of video meetings between devices.
The Nio Phone boasts an overclocked 3.36GHz Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 6.81-inch AMOLED 2K 120Hz display, a 50-megapixel triple camera setup, and a 5,200mAh battery. There is a possibility that the Nio phone may be equipped with an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
