Video calls have become quite simple thanks to speedy internet, affordable headsets, high-quality webcams, and effective software tools. However, conducting video calls in a hybrid way can present some difficulties. For example, when several individuals are gathered at a conference table while others join remotely for a video call, it’s essential that everyone is seen and heard clearly without each person needing their own webcam and mic.
Logitech's Solution
Logitech has had a solution for this challenge known as Sight. This system is specifically designed for such situations. The device measures 169 millimeters in diameter and stands 299 millimeters tall when mounted on a table. It features seven beamforming microphones and two cameras, both providing 4K resolution and a horizontal field of view of 315 degrees. This wide coverage means it can capture nearly everyone at a conference table without relying solely on a front view.
Advanced Features
With this setup, all meeting participants can be shown at once. There’s a front camera that can highlight interactions between individuals. Plus, a forthcoming firmware update is expected to allow the device to smartly decide whether to use the table camera or the front camera. In the future, users will also be able to add a second camera for the table, along with connecting more small microphones if needed.
Pricing and Compatibility
The system is compatible with popular platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet. It can be powered either by a standard power supply or through Power over Ethernet (PoE). The price tag is $1,999, indicating that Logitech is focusing on corporate clientele with this offering. With features like a touch control panel, a front camera, and extra microphones, the total cost could easily exceed this base price.
There are certainly cheaper options available, but the potential for expansion makes the Logitech system quite appealing. Many alternatives come with movable cameras that are more budget-friendly, though these often require manual operation.
