Carl Pei’s London-based Android company, Nothing, has recently shared updates on its YouTube channel regarding the forthcoming Phone (3a) smartphone series.

In-Depth Design Exploration

A video that lasts 10 minutes and 56 seconds gives viewers a thorough look at how the final design of the device was achieved. This design is believed to be what’s currently referred to as the Phone (3a) Pro, based on various leaks so far.

Camera Features and Design Choices

The device prominently showcases its first periscope zoom lens within a box-like housing, which takes the spotlight on the back of the phone. The (3a) Pro features two additional cameras and a single flash that gather around the zoom lens, resembling Google’s Material You aesthetics. This setup is housed in a notably raised camera bump similar to what was seen in its predecessor, the 2(a)+, which is currently priced at $389 on Amazon.

Nothing’s design team has opted for this aesthetic over more typical Pixel-like designs, aiming to conserve space and emphasize uniqueness. However, one of those designs may still appear in the cleaner Phone (3a), while another could be included in its flagship version, the (3).

Enhanced Glyph Lighting and Material Choices

The Glyph lighting strips surrounding the cameras in both models of the 3(a) series mirror those from the earlier 2(a) models, but are now promoted as being more “granular” in this version. The rear panels of the 3(a) series will be available in the same black and gray colors as seen in the last generation, but with glass transparent covers instead of plastic.

Both color options will feature signature Nothing “Easter eggs” like subway-map design elements and decorative screws. Additionally, the design team has hinted at the introduction of a new side button that has a refreshed glossy finish in the upcoming mid-range devices.
