Motorola seems to be concentrating on its Razr line of foldable clamshell Android smartphones at the moment. Yet, they are still quietly working on a new device that could eventually take its place.
Exciting New Features
The latest patent from the Lenovo brand hints at an interesting improvement for their rollable smartphone: dual fingerprint readers. These sensors are strategically located on both sides of the device when it is in the 'unrolled' mode, allowing users to access the sensor from either the front or the back.
Motorola believes that users may wish to unlock their device even when the display isn't fully extended, which could provide better security and ease of use.
Patent Details
The patent document titled "Managing consistent fingerprint-on-display (fod) location on a rollable device having multiple fod sensors" received approval from the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO) on November 5, 2024.
However, this promising new intellectual property does not bring the actual Motorola Rizr any closer to hitting the market.
