Mapfour N1 and N1 Pro: Exciting Carbon-Fiber Frame E-Bikes

Engwe has unveiled its latest range of e-bikes, which deviates significantly from the powerful, all-terrain models that have made it popular. In fact, the company has even established a new brand to market these new offerings.

Shift in Design and Purpose

The N1 and N1 Pro will replace the chunky tires and the dual-battery, moped-style body of the M20—currently priced at $899.99 on Amazon—with sleek 700c city tires and step-over frames crafted from advanced carbon fiber. This new series is explicitly designed for commuters and everyday urban riders. However, Mapfour claims that these bikes can achieve torque levels comparable to mountain bikes, with specifications set at 80 newton-meters (Nm) for the Pro model and 40 Nm for the standard N1.

Performance Features

Both upcoming models will feature 250W motors, offering a range of up to 100 km (~62 miles). They come equipped with 7-speed Shimano gears and active displays that are smoothly integrated into the frame near the handlebars. The N1 series is also expected to include geo-fencing, motion sensors, and GPS for enhanced theft protection. The Pro version will be further improved with “Smart Lock” and “Smart Lighting” capabilities.

Charging and Market Position

The Pro model will also have the ability to charge its new detachable 36V/10Ah Samsung battery in just 1.5 hours, the fastest charging time yet. Both models will feature this battery. With these new Mapfour bikes, Engwe aims to fill the gap left by VanMoof in the market, especially with the Pro version that is anticipated to be the most sophisticated carbon-fiber bike for under €3,000 (~$3,125) upon its soon-to-come release.
