iPhone 17 Expected to Feature First Central Camera Hump

The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is said to bring a long-awaited change in the weight and thickness of the device, as the name implies.

Design Features

Recent renders from the YouTube channel AppleTrack show that this new model may only feature a single rear camera. This design, which resembles the iPhone SE or the iPhone 8, is still available on Amazon for prices as low as $116. Some may find it surprising, especially since there are rumors of a potential price increase ranging from $1,299 to $1,499. Nevertheless, the single rear camera is believed to incorporate both the 48MP wide-angle and the 2x telephoto capabilities that are currently available in the iPhone 16.

Camera Configuration

While other models in the 17 series are expected to retain the dual rear camera setup found in the iPhone 16, AppleTrack suggests that this arrangement will switch from a vertical to a horizontal orientation. Interestingly, unlike the iPhone 8 Plus and its predecessors, the camera placement is anticipated to move from the left corner to the center of the back panel.

Comparison with Other Brands

Typically, this type of dual camera design is not common among smartphones, especially with the lenses positioned so high on the rear panel as depicted in the latest concept images. However, the start-up company Nothing, led by Carl Pei, has recently managed to achieve this with its Phone (2a) series.
