The iPhone 16 series has been generating buzz with frequent leaks and updates. The latest leak reveals intriguing details about the camera specifications for the upcoming devices.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to have minimal enhancements. These models will maintain the 48-megapixel main camera sensor seen in previous versions, while the ultrawide camera is anticipated to undergo an aperture improvement from f/2.4 to f/2.2.
Interestingly, the leak indicates that these standard models will finally incorporate support for macro photography, a feature that has been missing from the basic iPhone models.
Enhancements in the Pro Models
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to experience more notable updates. Although the main camera is expected to remain unchanged, the ultrawide camera is set for significant enhancement. The resolution might increase from 12-megapixels to a striking 48-megapixels, employing pixel binning technology. Each pixel is projected to be 0.7 micrometers, effectively creating a 1.4 micrometers size in binning mode. Users will also have the ability to capture 48-megapixel photos using Apple's ProRaw image format.
Beyond sensor improvements, Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a new photo format, JPEG-XL. Additionally, the Pro models are expected to support 3K video recording at 120fps, complete with Dolby Vision.
New Camera Features
One of the anticipated features is the Capture button, which will be present on all four iPhone 16 models. This capacitive button will not require a physical press to operate and will be exclusive to camera applications, compatible with both Apple and third-party apps.
Furthermore, the button is designed to support a force-sensitive half-press, allowing developers to implement functionalities such as exposure and focus lock before capturing an image. Its capacitive nature might also enable it to serve as a trackpad.
