Huawei has unveiled a teaser for its upcoming Mate XT, a tri-foldable phone featuring renowned Chinese actor Andy Lau. This new model builds on the Mate X5, incorporating an additional screen section that elevates foldable technology to new heights.
Huawei Mate XT's Distinct Design
The teaser highlights the Mate XT's standout triple-fold design. When unfolded, it reveals a sleek profile with a substantial display supported by dual hinges. The screen spans an impressive 10 inches, delivering a tablet-like experience and making it 50% larger than typical foldable phones. Notably, the device is expected to feature stylus support.
Rear Design and Features
The back of the Mate XT draws inspiration from the Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design, showcasing an octagonal camera module equipped with a periscope telephoto lens. The rear panel is elegantly finished in vegan leather, with prominent Huawei and Ultimate Design branding at the bottom.
Engineering Marvel and Availability
Despite its intricate folding mechanism, the Mate XT maintains an unfolded thickness of less than 5mm, highlighting Huawei's engineering prowess. When folded, it resembles a standard smartphone.
While Huawei has not yet disclosed the Mate XT's technical specifications, leaks suggest it will be powered by the company's proprietary Kirin 9-series chipset. As a first-generation tri-foldable phone, the Mate XT is expected to be released in limited quantities, with an estimated price of about 14,900 Yuan (~$2,000). The official launch is anticipated on September 10.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu has remarked that the project took five years to develop, marking the Mate XT as the company's most groundbreaking and innovative product yet, setting a new benchmark for future mobile devices.
