Huawei Mate 70 Specs: Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner, Larger Battery

Huawei’s Executive Director Yu Chengdong, also known as Richard Yu, announced at the recent Huawei Developer Conference that the Mate 70 series will debut in Q4 2024. Recently, Weibo tipster 智慧皮卡丘 disclosed the specifications for the upcoming Mate 70 series.

Display Specifications

The tipster mentioned that all Huawei Mate 70 models will feature customized high-end 1.5K panels. Among these, 'some models' will showcase four-equal-depth screens, while others will have flat displays that are slightly more compact. Additionally, the company has developed an ultrasonic fingerprint solution, suggesting that the series might include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. For reference, the previous model had an under-display optical fingerprint scanner.

Enhanced Battery Technology

Moreover, the entire series is anticipated to come with larger batteries. These batteries reportedly use different substrate materials and may offer higher energy density. A higher energy density enables devices to have more capacity without becoming bulkier.

Upcoming Tablet and Software Updates

Interestingly, Huawei is also developing a new tablet, expected to launch alongside the Mate 70 series in November this year. The Mate 60 series was released at the end of August last year, and this delay is likely due to the development of HarmonyOS Next. This new OS version is expected to significantly enhance the overall user experience.

Chipset and Fabrication Process

A prior report indicated that the phone’s chipset might utilize the same 7nm fabrication process. The chipset is speculated to be the Kirin 9100, which reportedly achieves a higher transistor density. The 7nm process could be SMIC’s N+3 process node. The decision to use the 7nm process is attributed to low yield rates and the high cost associated with the foundry’s current 5nm process node.
